I recently installed a new fuel tank to replace the original that was leaking. Today, I added a gallon of gas and then drove about a mile to the gas station to fill er up. On the way back home, the engine died at an intersection and I had to keep it reved up to make it the rest of the way home. The engine just won't run below 1500 rpm. I had my son check under the tank and it doesn't look like we crushed any rubber lines and there's nothing apparent. I have a broken R hand right now, so theres not alot I can do. 🙁 Any ideas?

I don't know if you replaced them or not, but the rubber lines going from the sending unit to the hard lines on the chassis can dry out over time and crack.
They could've developed a small leak when you were rustling the tank in and out, and could be sucking in air, instead of fuel.

thats true blake .. when i droped my tank i mae sure i bought new fuel hose to replace that old line...

Thanks for the replies! The hoses are all new, the fuel filter and pump are new too. I'll have to drop the tank and check things out. I find it strange, that it ran for awhile before it started to have problems.

sounds like its flooding? something broke off and is clogging your jets. maybe a piece of old hose. Try tapping your carb with a hammer lightly.

Well the car is junk now... and I would be willing to take it off your hand... lol

But maybe there was a little chunk of something is the tank that is clogging the line? Just a thought. Or maybe there was a lot of small crap in there and you pickup screen is just plugged?

That's what I assume. Maybe crap in the idle circuit or needle/ seat. Got a new fuel filter today. I'm going to wait till the weekend to tackle it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Same story. Would fire, but not run below 1500 rpm. I checked the fuel pump and I'm getting plenty of pressure there. I also took the top off the carb and cleaned the air bleeds with carb cleaner and set the floats to the proper height/drop. I checked for vacuum leaks at the booster, PCV system, also sprayed WD-40 around carb base/intake gaskets with engine running.

I may have a large vacuum leak under the intake manifold. It's the only thing that hasen't been checked.
