Installing a b & m shifter.

To be honest, if the back drive/column linkage is working with the shifter & the neutral safety/back up switch still works why do the extra work to use the switches on the shifter? No reason to cut wires when you don't need to. With this set up you'll still have the column interlock with the shifter when the column is locked.

If I'm interpreting what's being discussed correctly, then the issue is that the car will start in gear. It's a dilemma, and ask me how I know lol. I'm fixing this dilemma in our car presently. Basically, I'm getting the micro switches hooked into the start circuit and backup lights.

Ok so installed the shifter however I didn't remove the old linkage left it attached so my nuetral safety switch and back up lights will work. This way I don't have to run any wires to the new shifter. Is this correct?

If I'm understanding this correctly you have the linkage from the column selector and the linkage of the b&m ran to the transmission. Essentially you could use either to select gears? When you shift the b&m from park to reverse does the selector on the column move also? If the selector moves on the column I think you'll be fine. If the selector on the column doesn't move it's always going to be in the park position and then you can start the car even if the b&m shifter is in gear. I don't know how it would work having both linkages hooked up, cause to shift from park with the b&m you have to lift up on the lever, and with the column you have to pull it towards you. I would think these would cause it not to shift if using one or the other. Or I'm not understanding what's actually going on.

Actually I removed the selector arm from the column so can only shift from the floor shifter the column still moves to mimic the floor shifter and all the gears catch correctly

Then, you can still have the backdrive linkage for reverse and park/neutral safety.....

The only problem I have is when I put it in park the column indicator doesn't get all the way over so I have to move it with my hand in order to get the key out. Every other gear is dead on

Adjust the rod at the transmission; it has a set bolt.
