I took apart my instrument cluster to fix gauges and install LEDs. Reinstalling everything, the gear selector cable seems too short now which tells me it is incorrectly routed. The car reads "N" when it is in park, and everything else is off by 1 position.

How did you guys route your gear selector cable for the instrument cluster?

Watching this thread as I need to pull my column soon and I want to know the correct way to do this part lol.

That’s the clip
So the clip slides around the column to adjust the selector display?
Correct. Connect the end to the PRNDL pointer first. Apply light tension to center the pointer over P and then slide the clip over the steering column collar. Check range of motion vs. location of pointer and adjust as necessary for the best alignment.

The clip should be locked in once attached to the rotating sleeve. You may even be able to see the old witness marks where it had been. If so, place it there, then do the range of motion across the gears as Texas82GP described to see if it's still in the same place. If not, move the clip up or down slightly to get it dialed in. Easy peasy. Obviously, if it's a floor shifter, the backdrive linkage has to be hooked up correctly as well.

Kind of a cheesy vid, but it's good enough to see what's needed.
