Hey guys, I am doing the dash over in my elky and decided to change all the bulbs in the gauge cluster to red(194R). After putting the dash back togethe, figured I would give a try and see how it looks. I tried themat nightand you can't even see them lit. Anybody done this before. Im thinking about trying red LED's but they are alot more expensive and do not know if it is going to make a difference. Anybody try them or any other idea's other then going back to stock white?

Take the plastic reflector, the part with the holes in it to cover the gauges, and paint the back of it either bright white, or like with the chrome paint, it is this faded *ss green from the factory. I used shiny tin tape normally used for sealing ductwork, because it is so reflective. Then upgrade to LEDs' but make sure they have a wide beam output. http://www.superleds.com. the booties, or red painted bulbs, really hamper the light output of the bulbs. Then put it all back together.

Thanks for the advice liquid. I put all the white bulbs back in and it is still dull.lol. I will take the shadow box back off and line the back with the tape your talking about, have it in the garage.

No problem. Just be sure to clean it real good with like alcohol, and if you take your time, you can get it on there without any wrinkles. Made a huge difference for me! I wish I had some pics, i have a custom dash now so... It'll make a different with the bulbs you have, but after the mod, and some good LED's, it'll be as bright as you can get.

post back when you get it done how it worked, and some pics!
