Is this insulation mounted between the back of the rear seat and the trunk useful? It feels like its been soaked in liquid and is old / crunch and has holes in it - I want to tear it down. Is there something else I can put in it's place?

For sure. Grab a new re-pop. You won't regret it. I happen to have my interior blown apart, so can post a pic of mine. This is a new style one.
