Interior panel paint HELP!

I've had excellent results with SEM products over the years, but the parts must be completely free of any surface contaminants and the application must be done per the instructions.

It sounds like the surfaces you're painting are still contaminated with silicone, wax or some other residue.

Make sure you exactly follow the paint manufacturer's instructions. I have had my best results when I use quick wipe with either lacquer thinner or IPA (isopropyl alcohol) before applying the adhesion promoter (ad-pro). Be sure to use an ad-pro that is specifically designed to be compatible with the color coat you're applying.

In my experience the adhesion promoter isn't needed and often times made things worse.

I've had the best luck with washing the parts with soap and water. Don't use anything other than regular dish soap. No bleach, no degreaser, etc.

I then use a sprayable wax and grease remover that is made for removing surface contaminants before painting. Then I lightly spray the entire piece with 3-4 LIGHT coats. Do not try to get full coverage in just one coat.

Never had a problem doing it this way using both SEM brand and Dupli-color paint dyes.

I'm kind of confused on what to do. Lol! Is the adhesion promoter worth it or not?? Is there an adhesion promoter that I could buy at Lowe's or is eBay the most readily available place for it?

I bought some adhesion promoter at my local auto parts store. It helps the scratching quite a bit, but the panels still scratch. Is there something I can spray over the paint to help protect it more without adding gloss??

As far as removing the seatbelts. You'll need a male torx socket...the proper size escapes me at the moment. Unbolt the shoulder belts from the top of the B-pillar. You'll also notice between the seat and inner rocker panel, (under the carpet) the other end of the belt. It's also bolted in with the same size torx head bolt. (A breaker bar and/or a 1/2 drive ratchet will help break them loose.)
You'' need to unscrew the small phillips screws from the B-pillar plastic panel. When you're able to pull that away, you'll also need to unbolt the belt retractor mechanism. You'll see it once the plastic panel is pushed to the side.
Hope this helps...I just did this the other day.. :?

I'm about to start thinking I got ripped off on this paint.... I scrubbed each panel for 30 mins with SOS, antibacterial soap, and isopropyl alcohol, and used adhesion promoter... Paint still comes right off......... I'm getting mad with this. ANY HELP???????????????

use sem (although I have had success with other brands) use a red scotchbrite pad, denatured alcohol for clean up or some sort of prepclean... plastic adhesion promoter and paint

I had the same problem. when painting my dash and center console just the last couple days. I tried a primer that said plastic adhesion promoter that didn't help at all. I purchased Bulldog Adhesion Promotor from Pepboys and it was great on my dash, still havent got to the center console because the weather but there will be updates when i do
