So i have an 84 and a buddy is selling his iroc engine and i was wondering how hard of a project am I taking on if i buy the engine?can some one please help?

I hear it's pretty simple, but if you plan on running the 700r4 you will need a new crossmember or make one. O and you will need the fuel sending unit

I'm currently running a v6 and don't like it at all my transmission feels weak too so I'm not opposed to swapping that out as well I'm just really lost on what to do I've asked mechanics and friends and they just shine me on so any input is much appreciated

Exactly what is the engine/trans combo in the IROC? I believe that in certain years you could get a TBI engine with the IROC package, so it would be helpful to know. There is another member on the site who is also looking for engine swap info. If you do a search on this site, MonteSS.com, and MalibuRacing.com, then it should help to answer some of your questions. Good luck.

TBI is throttle body injection. You're most likely to come across a TPI which is tune port injection. It isn't a direct swap for your car but it's the same as installing a sbc except you need to convert some of your stuff for fuel injection. If it is a tpi your best bet is to buy a grand national gas tank. RITTER can get you prices and tell you where to get it. This tank is an efi tank. You are going to have to run fuel lines and a regulator to the engine. You will need the engine computer. You will need chevy engine mounts. You will have to fabricate an exhaust, not a difficult task but just know ahead of time you are probably looking at the additional cost for headers and a full exhaust system. If this is your daily driver then don't even attempt it until you have EVERYTHING you need and some extra cash to buy what you will forget. I am sure I am forgetting some stuff but that should be a good start to your list and let you see just a little bit of what is involved.

There are a couple good threads that list out everything for the olds v6 to chevy v8 swap

check this out:

if it is fuel injected then you will need to figure out how to hook up the computer components and change your fuel pump I think or convert it to a carb set up. Check out this video:

hope that helps good luck and do a write up if you go through with it. I'm hoping to do this to my 81.
