It is my daily. I am just going to go to my buddys house and drop it myself and reinstall it after the rebuild. I guess 450 isnt too bad for piece of mind. I dont have a car to go to work besides this so i will be taking a week vacation off until the rebuild is done. For the meanwhile since I can manually upshift. start in L1 and upshift to L2 and then D and no problem. Then agan when i stop.. Will it last until next pay date wich is 2 weeks from now? I drive maybe 10 miles max to work?

right now im on a tight budget so any engine swaps will be a no go lol.. I found a shop that will rebuild my trans for $450 if i take it off and drop it off or $750 installed. Is that a good deal? Does anyone think it could be something to do with a vacume or something? maybe a modulator?

Dude. I hate you. That is CHEAP. If it comes with a 90 day warrenty do it. Otherwise..

1. Jegs "new" TH350
2. Park it somewhere you can do it all yourself.
3. Find someone locally that rebuilds them. A lot of local shops dont have experience rebuilding trans missions. I found a guy on Craigslist outside of CHicago that buys junk trannys at junk yards, rebuilds them, and sells them cheap at him online store. Seemed like he knows what he is doing.

Mine died Jan 10. I did not want to mess with it, or deal with modifications to convert to a OD transmission. I just needed my car running again. SO, I took it to AAMCO because I wanted it done RIGHT, FAST and by professionals that KNEW olds trannys. It was like $2800 f*&king dollars to have it totally rebuilt. I think I got raped like a catholic school boy (I can say that, I was one...) In their defense it needed a lot of work, and the place that redid my engine about 10 years ago never connected the cross member right, and the exhaust system needed modified to get the gear into 1st.

Next time I am just goin to go to Jegs.com and order a new rebuilt one, shipped, and drop it off at the closest Mexican run chop shop where they will charge like $100 labor and put it in for me.

Well this shop will give me a year warranty if its a bench job. 2 year if i have then drop it, rebuild and install. Id rather save the 300 and if it messes up after a year then im still only 150 from the 2 year warranty 🙂

I would say that is a good deal not matter what you do. The 2800 at AAMCO did NOT include more that a 1 year warranty. After 1 year you are screwed. If you plan on driving the car a while before making any changes then go for the 2 year. For the price you mentioned it seems very reasonable.

I think i will do the bench job only because the shop is pretty far from me. Luckily i just bought my girl an old school 64 chevy stepside so I have a truck to drop it off in 🙂 Only thing im worried about is if it will hold up 2 weeks basically manually shifting it until i can drop it.

Dropped the car off this morning, I had the guy look at it yesterday and its a TH350. Hes going to rebuild it for $650 including a new torque converter and a shift kit. Will update as soon as I get it back from the shop.. Hopefully no mysterious charges start to come up lol.

Hope they get it done right, and fast for ya man!! Dropping mine this weeking and taking it in to be rebuilt! Just glad its going to be 60 outside lol!!

I'm in the same boat as you man. I've got a 79 T/A with a Th350 and it's only for 1st and reverse. 600 sounds pretty fair, but then again i don't know what it would cost to rebuild one, still waiting on that call lol.

Got it back today 🙂 total came out to $672. transmission seems to be running really great. Got a 2 year 24000 warranty, new torque converter, new transmission mount, shift kit and a new drum. The builder said that it was the best taken care of th350c he has ever seen. I would hope so Its only a v6 and has just 75000 miles on it so How hard can I really get on it lol. While it was up on the lift I looked at the undercarriage I was amazed super clean absolutely no rust! the exhaust even looks new 🙂
