98 350 Vortec block that is in good shape I also have heads but there are hairline cracks in both all for $200

he does not have a crank the block has been took a part pistons need to be put back in and the heads are cracked a bit close to the valves can they be fixed???

I would'nt take it for free. The missing crank is an issue. I'm sure machine work will be associated with a new crank, plus if the heads are cracked, how did they get that way? I would think that the block might have issues as a result of whatever happened to the heads. I would rather pay a little more for a complete engine, that has not been messed with. Machine work adds up quick; my Pontiac build started with a good running core and I managed to rack up several grand worth on that. Based on what you know, you have to assume the worst.

i agree with you on that :| ill keep looking

That is scrap. You should be able to find a core engine for a 100 or a little more. That core should be complete. What I mean by complete is heads, block, rotating assembly, possibly oil pan and valve covers. Vortec heads may push the price a little higher for the core.

keep in mind that vortec blocks will not be drilled for a mechanical fuel pump (unless it's a marine block) and the stock vortec head will require work to accept a standard sbc intake manifold or any cam over ~.470" ish lift.

I would definitely search out a complete engine for a core. tearing it down is huge in knowing how much machine work you will need. I have never and will never buy just a block I want to tear that baby apart to find out for myself what the condition is.
