On my 1994 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0 the blower motor hi speed seems to be missing and this morning after I had been driving for a while when I restarted it I had no fan but could hear the clicking from the area where the resistor is. The fan came on after a few minutes. I have looked on line and youtube for instructions on what I have to do to remove the resistor but I can't find any info on a 93-97 series so if any of you can fill me in I would appreciate it. I called Napa and since it has the automatic temp the price of a resistor is $255 and that's 1/3 of the price I paid for this awesome winter beater. I found a resistor on E-bay for $98 but I wonder if I could trust that one. I'm thinking I might grab one from a parts jeep and see if I can rebuild mine. Any of you guys tried that or have any suggestions for me. The is the last winter for this jeep and I'll get another one for next winter so I don't want to be putting much $$$$ into it.....or labor.

Wish I could help you with the specifics but then again thats why I dont town a jeep 🙄

The new jeeps are junk but the older ones are pretty dependable. This one has over 400 kilometers on it and I drove it 60 miles home last nite after the game in a heavy snowstorm and kept is at 50 to 60 mph in the snow covered lanes so I could get by the vehicles in the semi cleared lanes.. The jeep is real stable in the snow and that's why I drive them in the winter....

Hey Steve I checked my '01 Cherokee manual and the blower system is very much like GM's. The blower speed switch directs the blower to ground. The resistor block is composed of several grounded resistors, high speed is direct ground, and the test is for continuity, so no clicking. But there IS a blower relay, and that may be clicking. It is on the HVAC housing inside the pass compartment.

Mark, thanks alot. I thought all the relays were in the fuse block. I can sleep now tonite...:notworthy:

Well that's if it's the same as the '01. But I find Jeep is pretty consistent.

V8, thanks for your suggestion but I'm in Canada and with the exchange rate it's costing me over 20% to buy anything in the US.....I'm holding off buying anything for my GP until the dollar exchange gets alot better

I think Mark was right, the resistor won't tick and I finally came across a picture of the set up which does show a relay for a the blower motor. It looks to be accessible with out removing the dash which is a good thing. The relay is only used with the electronic set up which I have.

Steve my manual said it was right behind the glove box. Just be careful, those glove box doors with the plastic hinge break as soon as you look at them and are super expensive. I was not about to hand over several hundred bucks to the stealership so I used some stainless steel piano hinge to repair ours.

"the water pump dribbles" Sorry to hear that. I did one last summer and it was NOT fun. Lots of stuff in the way on the straight 6. At least I was there anyway doing the timing chain but man what a pain digging down to that.
