Jeep Question

OK but still does your breather have a filter/seperator? The '00 and '01 don't so I would add one and continue to drive like nothing was wrong. The only oil that would deter me is oily spark plugs. If they are clean I would just carry on. I should have said " no spring loaded tensioner", it is in fact a manual tensioner where you screw a long bolt that moves the PS unit away.

Mark, with the mileage on the engine I'm thinking it's a ring problem and I'm getting blow by. I'll check the pcv to make sure that isn't clogged and letting the pressure build up but I don't have any hopes it's something that simple...

I knew what you meant with the tensioner. I saw a video of what i think was a 1996 4.0 that had a tensioner pulley on it mounted just under the a/c compressor but I don't know how you'd get to it with the room the shroud leaves.

On mine that under the AC was an idler pulley only. The tensioner was right up top, on the PS pump. You would never know that's what it was without the manual. It looks like just a bolt head, but that bolt goes way down and presses against a bracket and pushes the pump away causing belt tension. It only makes sense after you actually use it.

I saw a that set up with the tensioner bolt down in between the block and the p/s pump. Mine was under and on the right side of the p/s pump (standing in front of the jeep). It's a tight spot to get to it with the air box in place but it is doable. There was not one bolt that was seized so I was happy about that.
