Yeah, kinda goes both ways with them. A crime isn't necessary to get some useless duty like that. According to those I've worked with, if there isn't anything productive to do that's when leadership finds creative ways to keep you busy.

Don't get me started. But funny story, I was training an older guy on the Parcel Post truck. He was not getting backing up so I took him to a city park parking lot where I had him drive backwards through the parking spaces using just the mirrors to guide him between the lines. I told him that at the end of his road test if he could not back into the dock he would fail. He passed. But he was a Lifer, did 10 years enlisted Navy and 10 years Army as a Major. I said "You do realize at one point in our life you could have had me cleaning the latrine with my toothbrush, and here I am helping you to pass a driving test?" We became very good friends.
No, but when I was learning that stuff [reconnoitering] in Ft. Knox, I slipped into a thicket of trees to take a wizz. As I buttoned up, I realized I was standing right next to a huge buck that was hiding from all the crazy humans crashing about. He looked at me, I looked at him, and just then someone fired a blank. He shot out of there like his balls were on fire. He covered ground like a rocket and was gone in an instant.
