Got the trans back today and watched the guy put the whole thing together. He asked me if I wanted to take out the accumulator spring for harder shifts. I told him " With the corvette servo, transgo shift kit, and the .500 boost valve, I don't think I need this thing to shift any harder or I'll snap my neck". The whole point to the accumulator spring is to soften the shifts a bit ( for those that don't know).

Now my next question:

I know you have to move the crossmember back to accomodate the 700r4. I currently have a th350 in the car. I can't move the crossmember back any further without extensions. Did you guys have to use frame extensions or can you simply flip the crossmember around the other way? I thought my mounting frame went back further but it doesn't. jrm81bu yours is probably identical to mine when it comes to the mounting frame, unless there was a drastic change in one year.

okay 2 points. If your car is an 81' I do believe you need the extension piece. mine was an 84', and I bought a g-force 700-r4 crossmember w/o extensions and it went right in. The other point I will make is with the accumulator. I took the spring out on the case side, but not on the bottom side. I was coached into doing this as well. They had me shim the piston to where it was flush with the case. There was a whole bunch of logic the shop threw at me as to why to remove it. Also my shift kit had me insert a restrictor in the case side. It was almost like a mini freeze out plug with a small hole in it. Something I remember is that the accumulator has a tendency to screw with the line pressure. If I see my transmission guy I'll ask him again.

one quick question I got for anyone with a 700r-4 in their g-body is....did you have any trouble centering the transmission mount? I almost didn't realize the transmission wasn't straight. Due to my dumb *ss trying to install a g-body specific driveshaft loop. The driveshaft loop won't even work without relocating it further back because it hits my u-joint. Nevertheless when I installed the loop I saw my driveshaft is too far toward passenger side...has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Pat: My stock crossmember was always bolted to the stock position. All i did was cut the pad for the transmission mount off, moved it over a bit(car was a 6 cyl car that used the offset transmission mount), and shortened it a tad and welded it back on. Sorry I don't have any pics. There is a Slim chance I still have it somewhere, i'll look tomorow.

84cutspreme: Sorry can't say I had any problems like that. If the motor mounts are in the right spot it should hold the transmission pretty straight.

From what I can tell based on the tailshaft housing, I have one out of a 2wd truck. So I'm hoping this thing gets close to mate up with the crossmember. Mine is in the stock position too. It was easy cause the th350 fit right into the same place as the 200 metric trans.

okay, I was curious if it should be off center or if there is something wrong, crossing fingers that it should be off to passenger side with correct install.
