Dropped off the timing cover off of my '76 motor as well as my distributor and both cam gears and fuel pump eccentrics. Bob is going to mock it up and make sure the distributor angle is okay on the aftermarket timing cover and the gears are meshing nicely. The snowstorm this week screwed up shipping so my cam bearing and some I my other parts haven't showed up.



I talked to Bob and Mike about this a little more in depth today, and Bob was able to illustrate the issue really well on a mocked up motor. The issue of the rockers sliding across the face of the valve tip from the intake side to the exhaust side as it compresses not only wears into the face of the valve tip, but it also flexes the valve stem back and forth and will cause stem wear and guide wear. The roller rockers roll vs sliding, and the lateral travel across the face of the valve tip is also about 1/3 of the travel of what the stamped rockers would be. I hope I'm making some sense here, it's kinda hard to describe in writing.

I get ya. What would be cool... A little ball instead of a roller. Like in an old computer mouse.

I already posted this in the 'what did you buy for your G-Body' thread but unrelated to the engine, I got a Monte Carlo console with breadbox from a junkyard. I was initially planning on reselling it but it is the right color and I already have buckets. It cleaned up really nicely with soap and water and 303. I need to get some brushed silver vinyl wrap for the breadbox door to cover the woodgrain and match the rest of the interior. A manual shift plate should will allow me to retain my column shift and not look silly. The breadbox seems like a perfect place to hide a 12v outlet for a phone charger or whatever.

And with the timing cover... your old one specifically. The side clearance is more critical than the protrusion. you can mill the cover, can't add material to decrease side clearance. But if it's scored to hell, then its junk.

The old timing covers are already condemned. Their only purpose now is to compare the distributor angle to my new TA cover to make sure it is exactly right so that it that the distributor gear doesn't get eaten up.

Stopped by the machine shop today to drop off some hardware and double check the part number for the rockers before I order them. The heads are fully machined, though once the rockers get here and we mock them up, Mike may shave a bit off the rocker shaft pedestals if needed to ensure a perfect fit.

Also here's a shot of the crank, all balanced with the reconditioned balancer on it as well as the oil slinger and the timing gear.

The replacement cam bearing is on it's way and according to the tracking number, it is scheduled to arrived on Tuesday.

I got the TA roller rockers ordered today. I also ordered the TA rocker stud kit as well.

When the Qadrajet makes that gutteral sound when the secondaries are open, it won't suck.
