Congrats look forward to see what you do to it

Did those NOS TES headers sell?

WELCOME to the site!! Great looking ride! Love those El Caminos and Caballero's! The roof option you have is very unique and I have never seen it as well, I like it though!! Like others have stated, get it legal safety wise for the road, and as far as the engine, i personally would keep it, rebuild if necessary, and as far as emissions, I would entertain one of those new fuel injection aftermarket carburetors. They have all the emission controls in the unit itself and would surly pass CA emissions. These are bolt on units with very little adaption needed, picture below to show you what they look like. Its the way to go for around a grand!

blk7gxn, unfortunately, without a CARB EO number, still not likely to be approved. Anything post-1976 has to go through the full smog/ref process. 😕 Yep. It sucks.
Well that sucks, What is wrong with the state California anyway!!?? They are so worried about emissions there, yet have the worst forest fires in decades because you cant water anything either, so the fires occur putting more pollutants out than all 50 states vehicles in 2 days time. What a joke. I had a car hauled from there a few months back, and the first hauler I hired couldn't do it because his diesel truck was banned from entering the state, so i had to find another company. These environmentalist are beyond nuts.

I give the OP credit for coming here with questions rather than relying on the s-show that is Facebook groups for information, I swear 80% of things posted in them are incorrect.

Sweet ride! And I DO remember the vinyl top! My godmother had a blue El Camino with a white top.
Like most of the others on here, i recommend you first focus on getting your car Up to safety standards. For a CA legal LS swap, I highly recommend you research like crazy and take notes. Make a binder with tabs for each part of your car (suspension, brakes, motor, transmission, etc). Staying organized will help you stay sane during your build. Plus, you’ll need to show receipts and paperwork for the LS swap.

For the actual motor and transmission, find a donor car or truck for sale. You’re going to need all of the smog equipment that comes with each motor. You’ll spend more time and money piecing all the smog stuff together, than if you had all the parts from the donor truck/car.
Plus, you can sell the parts of the donor that you don’t need and you can add it to the build.

The OP's first day here was also his last.

The OP's first day here was also his last.

Why's that? Seems like maybe the group wasn't as polite as perhaps they should have been to a newbie. Or did the OP get banned for something?
