Hey guys so i just rebuilt my carb and i am having a problem.
Now this is the first carb i have ever rebuilt so give me some slack if i dont know what your talking about.

ok so i rebuilt the carb put it all back together (hopefully correctly) and put it back on plugged in all vaccum and fuel lines.
But when i started it up i am idling WAYYYY too high.
i don't have anything to measure my RPMs but it sounds roughly 2000 rpms
im not sure how to adjust the idle speed so if anyone could help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried manually closing the throttle? If you did that and it wont idle down, then all you have to do is turn down your idle speed screw. If you dont know where this is, its on the drivers side of the carb. Look for a little screw that touches the throttle. Back that screw out while running and see if the idle goes down. If you cant find the screw, post a pic of the drivers side of your carb and I'll show you where it is. BTW, what kind of motor do you have?

IIRC the dualjet was the same thing as the quad just obviously a 2 barrel instead of a 4. Either way like dream on said, the idle speed screw is where it is in the photo I put in the link. You were referring to the idle mixture not speed screws.

You mean this screw?

I backed it off as far as possible it idled down a little but still really high.
Also I have another question
When I put the key in the on position (not started) i get a loud fast ticking which I think is coming from the air bleed valve on top of the carb

Yep thats your screw. And dont worry about the ticking its the solenoids in the carb that open and close like 15 times a sec. My friends car does that all the time. Also, blip the throttle a little bit while its running and see if it idles down. If it does, its just the fast idle solenoid keeping the throttle open to warm up the engine. It wont ever go down until you tap the gas. If that doesnt work, you could have a weak throttle return spring.

Alright I think I have it fixed the throttle cable was too tight not alowing the throttle to return to the speed silenoid.
Now I've got another question lol
Ok I think I'm running way too rich now
My eyes are burning from the fumes coming from under the hood how do I adjust that?

Hmm, well, either one of two things. One: while you were working on the car, you disconnected the battery cable and the computer lost its memory, and now it needs to relearn itself. The computer will fully relearn within 100 miles, so try and see if the problem goes away after driving it for a few days. Two: you set the jets wrong and you need to set them again, and if your carb has two screws on the front like in 83MONTESS's diagram, try turning them in and see if it leans out. If you dont have the two screws, you'll need to take apart the carb to set it, and unfortunately, I dont know how you set them. Good luck!

EDIT: Does it only run rich at idle? Those two screws are for the idle mixture. Try playing around with them to see if it leans out.

Alright wel thanks man you've been a really big help.
This being my first ever carb rebuild I feel pretty successful for even doing it alot of people are afraid of the whole do it yourself carb rebuild thing. I did it for more of a learning lesson than anything else (although it did need a rebuild). And I feel like I did pretty good by not messing anything serious up lol. Learned alot about how carbs work during the whole process too. I dot know too many people my age that can say they successfully rebuilt a carb before.

Well I appreciate everyone's help
You guys are awesome.
