Yes that GM recall was caused from one simple thing. Idiots with 300 different key chain decorations and 1 key on the ring.

So it's just a safety thing to allow the steering column to not lock since on an auto cars the only way to get the key out is to be in park.

Got it,

I drove an old Furd F350 tow truck in college. The ignition switch was so worn, the key would fall out while you were rolling, and once when I hit a bump, the thing turned itself off. I just turned it back to the 'on' position. Big mistake. All the unburnt fuel collected in the mufflers and one spark lit the whole column of mix and I blew out both mufflers while a customer's car was on the hook, loud as hell all the way back to the shop. I was pissed when the boss made me replace them. Oh well, it was on his dime, and I got to use the lift.

Weeelllllll……...the GM key recall wasn't exactly that. Most believe the root cause is suspected of the 40 lbs of crap on the key chain that some retards like to put on their keys, that part is accurate. But the actual "issue" they describe as your knee could bump the key itself and turn off the engine while in motion, not locking up the column. But here's the rub, I've TRIED it. And unless you're like 6'9" and all legs, you would almost have to contort yourself into an unnatural position to get close to the key, let alone bump it to the off position. The key is simply a switchblade type on a rounded rectangular fob. Very tough to hit the key. And it's not super easy to take to the "off" position with just the key. It takes a little effort to twist the key as it is even using your hands. I don't know who the doofus was that started that lie. And GM being doofy for believing it. And half the country to boot.

Both our Camaros are included in this recall but even my local dealer knows it's BS. After 400 or so postcards saying to take it in and get it fixed, I finally relented and took one in. The dealership said they really didn't want to do it, blah blah...I said OK. I like the blade type anyway. I could be a diick and report them to GM, but I'll put that in my back pocket in case I have any future run-ins with those buttheads.

I have nothing else on that key, never did. Interestingly, the Cruz, which my brother owns one so I know this, shares the same type of key. Yet it's not on the recall list. WTF? That's how I KNOW it's BS. I'm still waiting on the Takata air bag "fix" for the 2010 GMC. I got a recall letter for that, but wait until they call me when they get the parts in. Which will probably never happen.

I agree about cannibalizing an S-10 column. If you can. I like the idea.

Definitely manual transmission.
I feel as if I have more control and I like the engine braking with a manual
automatic to me is like someone else packing my pipe for me lol

I wouldn't use the engine to brake constantly, it's easier to change brake pads than a clutch disk....
