This car was a theft recovery back in the 90’s. It was road hard, put away wet, then canabalized. I was in high school then as a freshman lol. My best friends dad bought it at an auction and put her back together the best he could with parts he could find around here. (No FB marketplace lol) He drove her daily up until about 2005. Then parked her in is storage shop with lots of other cool cars. Out of the blue my best friend calls me and his dad needs to make room in the shop/warehouse. He gave a price and I jumped on it (start of the so called pandemic) thinking it would give me something to do while working from home and hiding from certain death.

I think this car has saved my life and bonded old and forgotten friends. I have reconnected with some of my best friends back in the days because I realized that we have so much in common preserving these beautiful cars. Plus we have a few beer nights here and there:)

That’s the stage my car is in right now

Its now one year later , is there anything you wish you had done or are glad you did ?
By the way , I’m probably going to use your engine and cam specs when the time comes as well
Thanks for sharing

I have done LS swaps on several vehicles at this point.. and I am glad I went with the old school tried and true SBC for this car. I get 17/21 mpg depending on the weight of my foot on the highway with the setup I have. I wish I would have done the Edelbrock pro flo mpi. Still considering it.

I could talk for days on this but in the end I just wanted a solid car I could take anywhere and not worry about having any major breakdowns. The original 305 I pulled out was a flat tappet lifter, sure I could have rebuilt it and put it back in to keep it original… however I always sweated that cam breaking/lifter startup process so I chose the l31 because it’s a roller cam:)

Other than that just having one of these classic G Body’s in my garage at my age makes me feel like a teen again lol. Make yours what you want. I had a lot of obstacles. Mostly budget.., wife, kids, and other priorities. I just took my time. Do what makes you happy:)

I am still finishing the paint. 1st round of polishing is done. Still have some things to put on the car. I just been to busy to work on it. I did buy a wrecked 2015 camaro ss.. thinking about swapping seats from the camaro to the Monte. See how that goes lol.

Here is the current state of my SS. Got most of the new weatherstrip kit installed. Waiting on putting the mirrors on until I finish the second buffout. Oh and window trim and the front lower fender pieces.

I was motivated and got the mirrors on after the second buffout. Need that paint to cure then going to ceramic coat the paint. Still wondering about wheel and tires for her.
