LED's in dash

Decided to replace the 194 lamps in the dash with LED's. The first try I was not to happy with the results. My first try I installed the SMD 5LEDs and was not happy with them not being bright enough. Second attempt, I got the SMD 10LEDs and am very happy with them. Now the gauges are easier to read. Only drawback is that they are not dimmable.
If the brightness does not suit you, they do sell LEDS that have more than 10LEDS on a single lamp holder. More LEDs usually means they are taller and there may be inteference with the back of gauges.

Did this project yesterday on my 87 Luxury sport. But i kinda liked the 5 leds the ones you said u like cause they were brighter. Did look cool but for me it was TOO bright. Looks cool anyway. Ill try n post pictures of my cluster. New to this forum so it mite take me a while...LOL

I love the LED lights, they look so much more modern, i really didnt like the factory yellow/orange bulbs, got them at autozone.

I had them on my EL CAMINO and i loved them...i know have them in my Malibu...here some pics..

I bought mine from Super Bright and they had 6 in each lamp, with my white face gauges they were too bright. The dimmer brings them down a little but the ideal way is to run an external dimmer under the dash. All you need to do it cut down the voltage a bit.

Here is the dash 'pocket' painted white without gauge panel, once installed the gauges look like blue neon 🙂 :

This isn't the best pic, I've also switched over to leds. Notice the blue tint. The gauges near the shifter and the heater controls are still the old style bubs, switching those over to leds next. I really like the effect of leds in the dome and courtesy lights.

took the pic of my dash with the LEDs. i also wanted to change out the ugly green thats for the blinkers. i was looking for a blue led. But with a baby on the way . wife bitchs every time i buy stuff for the MONTE CARLO! so i put a white LED and then made it blue from a medicine pill bottle. looks real cool and super bright. i also put 1 foot strips of LEDs under the dash. i love how its super bright... :wink:
