Looking for engine paint color suggestions for the Cutlass

Spring is finally starting to arrive, and i'm starting on my LS swap into the Cutlass project. I'm looking for suggestions on what color to paint the engine when I get it back from the machine shop? A couple of guys I know suggested black or Chevy orange, but it seems everyone paints engines those colors. Didn't olds paint their engines gold back in the day? I don't think that would look too terrible. What do you all think?

I will shy away from opinions on your ls swap into and olds, however yes they did paint them gold. I had my 403 painted gold and it drew a lot of attention. In my opinion it looked good, and definitely didn't blend in like all the chevy orange motors.

I wouldn't paint one gold in my opinion...thats just a ugly color to paint any motor no matter the make or model. Black and orange are the two biggest block colors but I would try and push more towards the gun metal grays...

Orange or Black. Everyone paints them that, because that's what colors they were. You could go "70s-80s GM Corporate Blue" and see if anyone notices.

IMO you should color coordinate with the car. Don't Insult the Olds faithful with Bronze,Gold, or Red, Olds colors on a non-Olds engine. Be original. You could just use a hi-temp clear coat and show off the LS.

My motor is blue because my car is blue, but I shoulda used the 455 color instead of the corp blue that I went with...but it works.... I love the gold motors....especially with the black crinkle paint oldspowered valve covers....

I have an sbc going in my cutlass - I am thinking black, silver, or dk blue for mine, but that is subject to change on a whim

on my 454 i did the usual black. on my 350 for my mud truck i did plum purple cause i just wanted a different color.
