Hey guys,

Always loved these cars and now finally have the opportunity to have one of my own.

Need some input in a car I am potentially buying and what you think its worth... I know the Warm Air cars are not worth as much or even close to the intercooled versions but here we go....
Close friend to the family picked up a 1984 T-Type from a local family who had it in a barn since 1991 (or so the story goes) the car has 60,000 original miles and only one VERY small bit of rust at the lower corner of the rear fender in front of the tire which is surprising. The thing that really draws me to the car is it has the "Designer" package with 2 tone paint, Bucket seats with console shifter and it has the T-TOPS option. Interior is great and the car needs some love but overall solid car.
Major issue is car has trouble coming out of first gear which I think is a kick down cable issue, is this common? Please let me know what you guys think and if I should pull the trigger or not. Thanks!

Do you have any pics of the car?

Hopefully you can see them, having a tough time not very good with forums yet.

That's pretty sharp. Around here, the asking price would almost certainly be over $4k.

That is what i was thinking but did not know if it was worth anything based on t-tops and the package it has. New to these cars for the most part other than drooling over them for a long time. Always wanted a GN but out of my price range.

Pretty nice looking car. I paid way too much for mine so I'll let others chime in on what it's worth. If it's pretty clean underneath and the engine runs good then I wouldn't feel bad paying $3- $4k.

Depends how bad you want it and how much it is. The car is pretty rare, I think there was only around 200 T-Types made that year but the real collectors want the intercooled version. If the car is $5000.00 or less it would be a good buy. Buy the way that one has the 8.5 axle under it which is worth up to $1000.00 it self.

He told me i could have it for $4,000 but may try to squeeze him a bit. what tells you that it is an 8.5 axle? And why exactly would someone look for that axle in particular?

Great car for a Turbo LS1. The Hot Airs are slow stock so they may great sleepers. T-tops aren't as desirable as hardtops for turbo cars, but people like them. Designer series cars are desirable over std T-type.

From the weeds in the pictures it looks like a southern car. If so, the rust is from leaves and clay build up and not from road salt, so every bolt on the car isn't fused... that makes its easily worth $6K to the right buyer. The Trans issue could be a the TV cable, or an internal trans adjustment or an abused transmission.

Where are you located?
