Lost my cat today.

I'm sorry to hear youve lost your friend and companion of so many years.

You must've been doing something right of Jonsey kept you around for 17yrs... they say dogs have owners, cats have pets/servants - so you were a good one.

It's always hard. We lost one of ours, Honey, just about 3 years ago now. She too was elderly and I went to multiple hospitals who wouldn't treat her because of age. We were leaving one, making phonencalls, trying to find somewhere else to try driving to when she died in my arms in the car.

I built her a cedar coffin which helps work through the emotions... well, a little bit anyways. And fabric stores will sell satin by the yard to line it with. Not saying that could help you, but, it did with me, like I said, a little.

Hope you find a creative outlet to push some of your feelings of loss into.

I will be welding up a metal cross to mark Jonesy's grave.

RIP Jonesy. Have always had a special place in my heart for cats since the pair my neighbour had, both of whom had been previously standoffish, each attempted to try to climb into my lap one winter 18 years ago and sit there. Come to find out, when it happened, that they had figured out that something was wrong and that something turned out to be my heart. Got the warning while out and at a buddy's shop shortly thereafter and managed to get myself and my old 78 M/Carlo home. Had the heart attack there in the living room and the EMT's showed, up threw me in the meat wagon and off we went.. Thing is, I had been flat and lethargic but there had been no overt signs. However the cats both knew something was wrong.

Turns out that there are hospitals and LTC facilities that actually allow cats to freely roam the halls, and the nurses and ward staff watch them. If they gravitate towards a specific room or bed in a room, the staffers pretty have pretty much come to understand that that resident may not be much longer for this world. For me, even just writing this down is spooky. For their part the cats seem to like my yard and flower beds, there is a semi-feral one that lurks around periodically. it is quiet, no dogs or kids, and they like that.

When you mentioned your intent to create a metal cross as a memorial for Jonesy, I was about half asleep and mostly working on auto, but mid way through the night I had a blip of thought; If metal, why not Stainless? Though meaner to work with the result is durable and long lasting. it also can be polished or buffed out to a bright finish and it seems to me that cats love bright shiny things to play with.

Stainless would be better but I just have a little 120 volt MIG welder. I welded a piece of flat bar stock onto a green steel fence stake, then welded his name on the cross bar and painted it green. This is the second metal cross I made this way, first one I made for Oillie, another orange tabby who died back in 2015.
