Should have a wire/spring in it?

I've not been able to get a lower hose for anything with a spring in it anymore. I end up swapping the springs from hose to hose when changing them out.

Or on my wagon, I didn't have one to put in there since the P.O. overlooked stuff like that, I bent my own out of a wire coathanger.

  • "Re-engineered materials resist vacuum collapse. This reduces the need for internal springs in many applications."
From gates listing for Malibu lower.

That's:bs:

At least there is a spring out there to save the lower hose.

thanks for the site.... can't remember the last time I've seen a radiator hose with wire spring reinforcement. never thought about taking one from another hose. good call

You could always add an inline drain to the lower hose to support it, plus it is a little more accessible than the factory petcock.

I agree with your assessment. It may resist it, but it doesn't mean crap.

Ford ones out there in stainless.

Here's an idea.....go to Home Depot or Lowe's or a hardware store, buy some fairly stiff stainless wire and spiral wrap it around a 1-1/2" PVC pipe and cut it to length a tad short [to make room for the rad and water pump nipples] and insert it into the hose (twist it to help install). Then crack open a beer and marvel at your new way to skin a cat.
