I have a 81 Malibu. I plan on narrowing the bumpers to fit the body better, instead of having them stick out a foot on both sides. I'd like to add a lower valance just to give it a more aggressive presence. Curious if anyone has ever used anything other than the one intended for the body style? pics?

What I think could work but might be a little too narrow are the ones for early to mid 90's S10s

...or the 90's GM full size truck.

A cut here, a little heat there and I think it'll work, right?

these are fairly cheap options (both on ebay for under 50, or a junkyard pull)
Thoughts? Anyone ever done anything like this? pics?

It's a good idea. I've often thought about if one the deflectors that you mentioned would fit our cars, and if they would need to be modified in any way. I would take some measurements and go on a junkyard safari, rather than buying something blindly online.
I used to have the El Camino SS airdam up front. I don't think it would've fit too well after narrowing the bumpers. But I think your idea of using the Blazer or truck deflector might be a good fit.
I couldn't agree with you more about the bumpers sticking out like Mickey Mouse ears.

I am contemplating what to use right now for the wagon. The factory turbo buicks had air damns that were 2 pieces to direct air into the intercooler, I have to come up with something. But like Jack, I have severely modified the front bumper some something of the shelf wouldn't work.

Now, I have a 94 K1500 that I just put a replacement lower front air damn on and I think it looks sharp, but the plastic it is made out of my be a paint to modify since the are too wide for the G-body.

The S10 may be closer, and I actually may look into something similar since it looks like a possibility.

After my car is in paint, I'll be tackling this very thing.

Chalk those bumpers up to great 70s 80s styling cues
Amen to that, brother 😱 Can you say fuggly? I think back then, the emphasis was on lessening impact, and used along with the bumper absorbers.

Jim,
You're going to need something either way to direct air into the rad and intercooler. I too think the S10 piece might be a closer fit and probability. I've also tried checking out different cars on the road as to what they're using....a Volvo might be a possibility. So don't overlook other cars...foreign or domestic.
I will keep my eyes and ears open and see what would be a possible fit.
