in the process of putting a 5.3 in my regal. I am not using holley products but i am trying to be pretty budget friendly on this build and i dont feel the car really justifies having top shelf parts on it. If i end up having nothing but problems i will probably have to get the holley stuff but only time will tell.

Holley's stuff is a must have for folks looking for a packaged solution. It is good stuff and a good option. But, it is tough to swallow thousands(?) in swap parts to support a $500 engine.

A fuel injected/boosted Gen I SBC should be very appealing to lots of people with what is hitting the market now. It is what people need, LS swaps are what they want.

I went with almost all the Holley swap stuff (oil pan, mounts, headers, exhaust, ECM, crossmember). It’s well made, engineered to work together and it’ll be easy to grow from. So far the only complaint is that I can’t run a stroker crank in the oil pan. Otherwise I’m pretty satisfied, I know I won’t have a lot of surprises when it finally happens.

Duke, I wanna say the new Holley pan has more clearance...like 4.0xx". PN#302-3 which also has threaded bosses for oil drains. Check with MotorheadMike, he just bought this pan recently.

Here it is. Max stroke of 4.000".

Too bad I already have the small one. Maybe in the future, when the 6.0 gets built. 😀

So wouldn't you know .... they have a swap-in gas tank solution that only costs a little more than the motor itself, and it is NOT smog legal in California. Or anywhere, technically.

64,
I was just making a tongue-in-cheek joke about it...I know that the swap makes sense. I just have to laugh every time the first remark someone makes after someone asks " how can I get more power?" is : "LS SWAP IT!"

with the ability to gain HP just by a mere tune, and the variety of aftermarket adders, it makes perfect sense... I may end up going this route myself someday, but it just seems like Lemmings running off a cliff to do one right now... I guess what is in my head, just like the hot rod flat black paint; when you start seeing it on a multitude of Ricer cars, it's been played out and time to move to something different.....

evilregal - no offense was taken. I was trying to point out that there is a reason that LS swaps are popular and relatively easy and economical - it was designed to be that way by the folks at GM. I have some friends and aquaintance's that despise all things GM because of this, but they'll get over it at some point - lol.

Again - no offense was taken 🙂🙂

When you look at the boost-ready TBI EFI systems you can put power adders on anything. The same amount of fabrication goes into building a turbo LS as goes into a turbo Olds 307. Betcha make decent power too.

In most cases these aftermarket ECMs run in Closed Loop under load (aka a Target AFR) so you can set a safe window and make reliable power. Obviously all of the ancillary costs to convert to EFI remain.

Just boost the mill you have.
