i got my car painted from them a few years ago and they supposedly did some body work but where they did the body work the paint started to bubble and they wouldnt fix it for me ven went to the BBB and didnt get anywhere they said that i did the body work my self and then took it to another maacco in a different city and they said whoever painted your car used the worste primer their is and didnt do a very good job. i guess it all depends on what maacco you go to though. my friend got his truck painted there and the paint is chipping in a lot of spots after 5 years but he got the cheapest paint job possible i got the middle of the line paint job.

They are independently owned...go and talk to the owner and check out the work that is going on currently. Makes a big difference.

Bodywork and prep is the most important part. If you do that yourself I don't see how anyone that is decent with a gun can mess up a paint job unless they do it under a tree. I'd hate to do a lot of work and then have it come back with a ton of orange peel or dry spots, though. But, if it's a daily driver it probably doesn't make a difference. But, look at my avatar. I drive my car as it looks in the picture. Obviously, I am not too worried about nice paint.

Thanks for all the replies. What I am reading is what I expected based on input from others in my area. I'm going to give them a shot. I like the shop manager and other shops in my area are quoting twice the cost because they prefer to work on the "cake insurance jobs". I've done most of the prep work but plan to spend the extra money to have them do it right.

Thanks again

I would stay away, its the you get what you pay for thing, also i have a guy i go to school that worked there preping cars for paint and then painting, and he is a great body man but they fired him cus they said he wasnt fast enough ,they were putting out cars in less than a hour ,taped off and sprayed and he told me most of them went almost directly into the parking lot to dry to make room for the next, also the quality of the paint is about the same as a rattle can.

I've seen thier work and it looks good. I have a satisfaction gaurantee from the manager and all materials are premium (PPG BC/CC). I am paying extra for this work but I'm not gettting bent over by a cry baby insurance shop. I'll report back with results.

My car was painted at Maaco years ago, no offense to anyone, but it looks like crap. I don't even think any of the moldings were removed for painting and there is over spray everywhere. Another drive-by shooting. You definitely get what you pay for.

that looks nice !

Here in PHX most body shops just do Collision work. It took me three years to find a body shop to paint my El Camino.
No one had the time or wanted to deal with it. I found a CarStar collision center here that specialised in custom paint for high end motor homes IE..Multi color custom paint jobs.
I just happened to walk in on a off week for them with a fist full of cash.
I got a first class State-of-the art PPG waterborne paint job, just because they were slow at the time.
Maaco is just about the only name brand place you can just walk into and get a paint job here.
I guess we just got lucky.
