Well.

Here she is.

My 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass (turns out that she`s a 1980 model.)
When you import a car to norway, the date the car get its new licence, it apparently also gets a new birthday.

Here`s the VIN. 3R69NAMXXXXXX. and the A clearly states, that she`s a 1980 model. this is going to be fun, me trying to convince the government, to give me the veteran benefits! When a car is 30 years or older, it`s considered a veteran, and therefor cheaper in both insurance and roadtax!

she startet her life, as a DX model, but with a diesel engine, she was at a disadvantage, from the birth.
as she grew older, and the repairbills piled up, somone took pity, and replaced her dying hart, with a 350 sbc.
gave her a new coat of paint, and a second chance at life.

I am sorry, if my spelling is a bit off, since I`m better at speaking english, than writing it. (fell free, to correct me, as I`m still learning!)

The story behind how she got into my ownership, is a good one, so please bear with me!

My stepdaughter and I, have allways had a soft spot for american cars.
but my interrest startet at the age of 8, when my uncle gave me a ride behind the wheel of his 77 ranchero.
also a ride in a 79 cherokee, was a trigger!

I have been through a lot af riceboxes, and german tanks.
but as you know G-bodys have a special place in my heart, and for the last few years, there have been nothing else, than american vehicles on my property. almost

the only exeption were my daugthers Vw golf.
that golf, was parked, due to my daughters boyfriend.
he had no mechanical sence, and trying to rebuild a golf engine, without tools or knowledge, is never a good idear!
so the darn thing was dead, and I had no intention of doing anything, to that car, exept junking it.
well, after a year, or so, she got dumped by him, and shortly after, I had been overrun by boys, with wagging tales, howling outside the door, as if she was in heat!
something good came out if it though, the many boys, fixed the golf, so at least it would run!
no heat, and the electrical was not in good shape!

she drove it for a couple of months, and parked it outside, when winter came, and forgot everything about it.

in january 2009, I came across an ad, that stated, that
"this old and tired oldsmobile, is looking for a new home, preferbly with someone, with mechanical skills, since the car hasn`t been running for three years. trade with a runner is prefered!"

so I told her to give him a call, and suggest a trade, with the golf!

15 minutes later, she came down the stairs, with a big smile, and said, and I quote.
" He said yes?? what kind of man would trade an oldsmobile, for a golf"

the next day, i got up early, and vent to work, in minus 10 degrees celcius
(thats 14 degrees fahrenheit)

fixing the electrical, in that tempeture, is a bigger problem, than most people think, since the wires are brittle, and will break at the slightest stress!

nonetheless, I got the golf fixed, and we loaded it on a trailer, and a buddy of mine, came in his surburban, and helped my daughter to deliver the darn thing.
It took them 6 hours, to drive the 70 miles, up to hamar, deliver the golf, load up the olds and get back home!

when they got here, we just dropped it to the ground, and my buddy was kind enough, to deliver the rental trailer, at the gasstation!

the next day, I was up early, in order to get the olds fired up, and moved, since it blocked the driveway, and I had to get to work the next day.

I removed the carb, and gave it cleanup, with some carb cleaner, and air.
I blocked of the fuelhose, so she wouldnt suck up any bad fuel.
I tried to fire her up, but she cranked, but no spark.
I tried for a couble of hours, but no luck, so I gave it a rest, and vent inside for a cup of coffee. sitting in the kitchen, i suddenly had an idear.
went outside and poped the hood, on "Ugly betty"

I compared the two enginebays to each other, in order to se any difference.
and I found it, a thick wire from the generator, to the battery, was missing on the olds. so I made one, to fit, and cranked it over, she fired right up!

End of part one

Can't complain about a deal like that!

I'm not too fond of the bright yellow paint on a 4-door, but it looks like a great driver!

Well, the color keeps the longfingered a..holes away. Lay a hand on it, and everybody knows who took it.
but the car will get a new paintjob, when summer comes.

It is also the only car in the neigborhood, that has no trouble starting, quite funny, when the highclass stupid *ss, audi owner next door, needs to call the specialist, in order to get his 2010 audi startet, a car that costs more than my house!
my bargain car, always starts, no matter the weather, or temperature!

I kinda like that sour expression on his face, when i stop, and ask him if I can help out in any way.
more than once, have I been told to "go f..c my self with an 3" tailpipe"
You can hear me laugh a mile away every time!

Time for part 2.

well, overhere, every car on the road, must have a clear bill of health, before they are allowed to get on the road!
If they dont, the police will remove the licenceplates, and you will get a heftig fine! (1500$)

so we had to make sure, that all was well, with the car, before we tried to get it approved for road use.

so, we gave her new springs and shocks, brakes, new edelbrock intake, and carb. I spent the better part of easter, swapping transmission, on my surburban, and every weekend, on the electrical, on the olds.
my daughter, bought a set of cragar ss rims (copys) and tires, and got them on the car.
and we delivered it to the shop, for road aproval!

he called us back, after a few hours, but with me at work, we had to wait, until I got home, before we could pick up the car.
He had a few things, we needed to fix, before he would aproove it!

the horn didn`t work.
the headlights were bad.
and the backup light didnt work.

he went home, and I picked up the car, and drove it back home.
three hours later, the car was fixed, and I placed back in the exact some spot and position, and waited.
at 0700 the next day, my mechanic, called me, and asked if I forgot the car??
I said no, and i could hear him go outside, and come back in.
"Allright," he said, "come pick it up!"
"But I need the car aprooved, for road use!" i said.
"WOULD U PICK UP THE DARN CAR! you are parked right in front of the gate!"
"But I need the car aprooved!"
"IT`S APROOVED, NOW WOULD YOU PICK IT UP??"

so the car got its aprooval, right before the first carmeet of the year.

now my daughter have been driving it for almost 9 months, but since fuel is expensive overhre, she wanted something, that was cheaper on a daily base.
so after a while, she found a 1980 skylark, and bought that as a daily driver, and parked the olds behind the barn.

one evening, she was talking about parting out the olds, and using the parts on her pontiac, (the pontiac is in pieces, out in the barn, due to rust, and electrical issues!)
I know that she has been drooling over the 350, I build for myself. and since I really dont know what car I was going to use it in, I desided to make her an offer.
I would help her get the pontiac, back together, and give her the 350. If she gave me the olds!
she didn`t even hesitate, YES.
so suddenly I had an 1982 oldsmobile!

It didnt take me long to swap seatbelts in the car.
I have two boys, and the belly belts in the back, were never a good idear!
so now they have 3 point belts in the rear, a lot safer!

I also got rid of the headliner, as it was hanging down. the inside foam, were not in bad shape, but I think, I`ll strengthen it with some fiberglass, and have some fun, with vinyl!
the dual benchseats, are coming out, and some newer bucketseat are going in.

Today, It`s snowing like h..l, so I will not be working on any of the cars.
I should have been working on the skylark, but with the snow, i`ll not be going outside.
so today is going to be a coffe, summitracing and dream yourself away day.
I`ll fire up the fireplace, and relax. plan, write, and dream of better wheather, or a garage, that`s big enough.

I got pulled over by the police yesterday, I had no brakelight.
so I spent the better part of an hour, on the side of the road, with a cop standing on my brake, while I were crawling around, trying to find out what was wrong,
after testing the switch, the wires, the fuse, I testet the bulbs, they where both dead, and I had only one spare in the car.
so one cop gave me a ride to the nearest store, and the other one waitet by the car!
nice guys! but a funny feeling, to get to the store in a copcar! everybody stared at me, I wonder why.

That cop was awesome and it sounds like he went well over the line to help you out. Must be the time of year..

if you're ever on your own and need to have the brake lites on to check something out you can pull back the micro switch on the pedal housing to activate the lites and then it's an easy adjustment to set it back in place.

thanks, i`ll remember that.

The cops around here, are known to be helpfull, and they know me. "the guy in the yellow olds? yeah, we know him!"
an its also the time of year.
one of my neighburs`s sons, told his family and friends, "no presents this year!, and gave his whole december salary to the salvation army! (900$)
the boy is 15 years old.
this year is full of stories, about the spirit of christmas.
like the former criminal and drug abuser, who would rather spend christmas in his car, than go back to his old enviroment.
and the family, who took pity on him, and invitet him to stay in their caravan, and have christmas with them.
we, my family and I, desided to invite a few of our older neighbours for christmas dinner, and for new years evening.
my parents live in another country, and dont have the time to come over for the hollidays.
so the boys, thought it was wonderfull, to have "spare grandparrents" over for christmas.
and the old folks loved it!
