Mecum H/O

Add to that, even a current 4-door, plain-jane, base model grocery getter will beat most all G-Body's in the 1/4 mile stock for stock..
But they will NEVER, EVER be as cool as a G-body. And that's something that the jellybean cars' mechanical efficiency cannot touch. 35 years from now, who's going to have those jellybeans anyway? If they have reproduction part websites dedicated to those jellybean cars years from now, THEN they may have merit. But until that happens...

Besides, you'll never hear anyone ever say about these jellybean cars: "I used to own one of those when I was (fill in the blank)" resurrecting fond memories and a smile on their face.

Well, except maybe THIS guy...

Very true.. Which is why I mentioned a couple of the reasons we sink money into G-Body's that I did... Attention and Compliments, specifically..

I drive mine daily. I don't go a week without at LEAST 5 compliments, and 3 offers to buy... week after week... ever since Ive owned it. (ok, maybe less now with the Election Infection and not dirving around as much, but...)

Hell, I learned what a "Whip" was that way... (had to google it after someone at work said "Nice whip")

And yeah, those "efficient jellybeans" will end up like our generations escorts and cavaliers. Here today, gone tomorrow.

G-Body's won't be investment cars unless its a GN/GNX or a 83/84 Hurst Olds..

They're akin to the 80's Mustangs.. Unless its some sort of "Special Edition" (eg. saleen, steeda, shelby, SVT Cobra) its never going to be worth much.. and even then, in those cases, most aren't worth that much either.

Add to that, even a current 4-door, plain-jane, base model grocery getter will beat most all G-Body's in the 1/4 mile stock for stock..

People dump money into G-Body's for a multitude of reasons.. love, the attention, the compliments, the challenge, being a glutton for punishment, the frustration... but never, ever, for money.

And the chicks, don't forget the chicks.🙂

This was an 84 H/O

This was an 84 H/O

Right.. and it got $13k in the absolute worse case scenario when it comes to auctions.. bad location, bad timing, bad everything..

And when did $13k for a G-Body that ISN'T a GN/GNX become "not a lot" of money? Sure, Ive seen the odd Grand Prix like mine, with more miles and less options listed for $12-16k, but that sure as hell doesn't mean they'll sell for that. Ive been offered $9k for mine, which I thought was high. But I didn't buy it to sell it, just to go thru all the BS I went thru trying to find another one...

I myself didn’t do it for investment. I’ve got almost $20,000 in my Elco so far. Granted as you said who knows what the Gbodies I’ve seen for sale at crazy prices really ( if )sell for. I just thought $13,000 seemed low for as nice as the car was. Now if it had a modern LS drivetrain it probably would have gone for $20,000. So much for keeping them stock/original.

That's also IF it's real and not a clone....

Unfortunately, other than the Grand National GNX, they will never be big money cars. Part of the reason the 60's and 70's performance models especially were so fondly remembered, they could beat anything off the show floor in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Then gas became affordable again and there was reliable high fuel octane available, which helped. They sky rocketed in price due to nostalgia. Now days, what can't beat the H/O's 15.84 1/4 mile, almost any car off the show room floor can now, with ease. I own the slowest new muscle car, it is a SECOND quicker in the 1/4! The V6 nearly doubles the horsepower and even out torques the Olds V8. It is 250 pounds heavier and gets at least 10 mpg better than the H/O and even more loaded. You have to love these G body cars, as an investment they stink. I keep telling you guys, these cars will never be worth money like the 60's cars. As an extra insult, my Province changed the 30 year rule to Classic really cheap licensing to 1987. So I pay $80 a month compared to just $148 per year for my 70S for a car with no book value.

I can only partially agree. However, the 5.0 Mustang LX, Formula 350, '91/'92 Firehawk, Turbo Buicks, GNX, TTA, SY/TY, and 4th Gen V8 F-bodies would all like to see the infamous muscle cars out behind the woodshed for their stock-to-stock @ss whooping.
