I have 1987 monte carlo SS with a stock 305 sbc, that once in a while I get a light blue/white smoke at the tailpipes during start-up. I need some help getting rid of this issue. Do I need to rebuilt the whole engine? or is there a quick fix to this problem.

light blue is oil white is coolant might wanna pull the plugs and see what they look like... more and likely a blown head gasket.. also check to see if you have any water in your oil...

I had the plugs replaced when the intake and headers where installed and mechanic said no water or oil issues, he did mention something about a valve seals? but don't quite remember...

if he said your oil is clean and your spark plugs are clean then hes right time to change out your seals..

light smoke only at startup is classic valve seals. a head gasket would be different.

I thought the same with mine and what it ended up being was condensation in my tail pipe from moisture. But everything is perfect it blows some smoke and disappears very fast maybe it could be the same for you.

If its only blowing a light smoke on start-up then you're in good shape still. Now is the time to get to the seals replaced. In 6 months to a year, it'll start using a little more oil and maybe some smoke at higher RPMs.

I drove my '89 Firebird 305 TBI for like 4 years and it blew a little smoke at start-up and never used any oil
