V6 and v8 tachs have a different redline on them

Just like any tach they have to be setup for the different amount of cylinders.

I have the different types in my garage I will dig them out to show to you

I know these are different year tachs but you get the basic idea.

You can see that hey all have a different redline on them.

They don't specify weather they are for a V6 or a v8 in there discription. All the aftermarket tachs I have put in cars you had to set a switch. If they are different between the v6 and v8, I guess I would be interested in a used v6 one if someone has one for sale. I was going to put a 8000 rpm one in only because I may put a high reving v8 in my car later in life.

I bought a 8000 rpm tachometer from Mikes Monte's. The printed circuit has the positive and negative terminal on it. You only need to add a signal wire from the distributor. I brought a converter box to go from a six cylinder to a 8 cylinder tach. Wired it in and it read way high. Hooked up the signal wire from the tach to the distributor and it seems to be reading right. Don't have a hand held tach to check it at home. I am under the amsomtion that with a hei distributor it does not matter.
