I am not for sure yet but i dont think my cam is going to have that much lift in it, i am considering a zz4 roller cam right now

i do not understand why you would even consider keeping the same cam bearings in when you are going to be putting all new bearings in other places. any way, that zz4 is a excelent street cam, my buddy has one in its 1969 c-10 and you could really tell a difference!

i guess i just have never even heard of a cam bearing in a sbc going bad... the motor in question is a budget build up that we have about 500 bucks for and i think that the cam bearings are 40-50 and the install is about the same so thats 100 dollars of the 500 dollar budget. there is a complete kit he is considering that comes with cam bearings also. do the tools they sell on ebay work??

that is where i got my cam bearing tool from, i think it was around 50$ shipped, i have had that for years, i just got another one with my "summit bucks" and both seem to be the same! i know people that re-used cam bearings and they worked, all they did was re-check the clearences and pounded them back in, and if one was a little tight, they would just lightly scuff it until it rolled freely again.

I would replace the cam bearings while the engine is apart. You may not have ever heard of it (nor have I) but thats when sh*t happens, is when you think they won't.
