All I have is a 2wd pickup currently. 97% of the time they are great.
2WDs are kinda making a case for themselves. Of course I wont say no to a well priced 4WD. I'm hoping to get taxes done a little early this year then I can start actually shopping for real.
My BIL 93 1 ton dually was 2wd I believe. He basically used it as a tow rig. Just keep nice agressive tires and maybe some weight in the back in iffy weather. With our 6 months of winter, I would never go that way, sounds like viable plan for you.
Took the truck out for its first drive this year today. The roads were still a little salty but it was warm, sunny and dry and I couldn't help myself. I put it through its paces and it never stumbled. I love driving this truck.
Is that an aftermarket front bumper? I don't remember seeing them with holes in the middle like that.
Nope, it's just an OEM Ford diesel bumper. I believe they also came on Eddie Bauers.
Funny, GM did the same for their diesels but they also used a different panel behind the bumper to deflect the air up into the radiator. I put one on my dually which is a supercharged big block.
Yeah I remember those from when I had my Suburban and my K1500. They are nice looking bumpers. If I'd have kept either of them long enough I'd would've put one on them. These were the ones I had-
Been driving the truck just about every day for a week or two now. Today I replaced the cruise control deactivation switch and the pigtail that goes with it. Mine had a chaffed wire so I bought a replacement. These are the ones that had Ford had a massive recall on for a potential fire hazard.
Also since I've been driving it, the drivers seat has been really uncomfortable. Kinda par for the course in these old trucks but I decided to take a look at it today to see where the problem actually was. The seat foam on the bottom is pretty shredded, which was my suspicion. The cushion is NLA and no one reproduces them but it is symmetrical, so a passenger side cushion should work.
I also decided to take a look at the seat back and see if the lumbar air cushion was working. The air cushion is junk, but more than that, the seat frame is broken! The welds snapped right off and it looks like someone tried to fix it too, but that screw wasn't holding anything. Geez no wonder my back hurts in this thing, there was nothing but foam supporting my back. Now I've got to try to source a seat and a good bottom cushion.
I'm also gonna see about new shocks too. The cheap Monroes I put on the rear a few years ago are probably still fine but they were like $20 new. The fronts are shot. Bilstein 4600 seems to be the be-all end-all shock to get. They are a little pricey but we'll see what happens.
