just thought i'd throw up a few pics of my freebie 78 malibu. Had an old timer come in with this car for an inspection sticker a few times over the years and was in love with the car. I made sure to let him know to put me at the the top of the sell me your car when you don't want it anymore list. So a few years go by and I forget about the car and one day the old man comes into the body shop and says hey! you still want that old chevy, its been sitting in my yard under a tree for the last 2 1/2 years and nobody in my family wants it. I say to him I dont have spare money for a car and he says you can have it! That old guy paid to have the car trucked to the shop I work at and signed he title over to me. The car looked a little worse for wear on the truck having sat for years with mold, leaves and half flat tires, but a new battery, fresh gas, full tune up,new radiator, and the rims and tires( 60 bucks!!) and this is how it looks a few months later. what should i have paid for this car if i bought it?

Re: my free 78 malibu

Wow what a deal! Ever hear the term "you stepped in sh*t"? This is the definition of that. That car would have fetched a grand easy, probably more.

Re: my free 78 malibu

I agree. You made out like a fat rat. Good score. It looks great with those wheels, too. I always liked those wheels. It gives it kind of a sporty stock look.
Welcome aboard and thanks for sharing pics of your incredible score.

Re: my free 78 malibu

Wow. I was given a 79 Cutlass Cruiser back in the summer but it is nowhere near as nice as that. Actually, nice doesn't fit anything having to do with my car.... except maybe the cigarette lighter. I polished it up and it's looking pretty sweet now.

Re: my free 78 malibu

Ill never ever complain about never getting a free anything after this car came to me. It sat at work for a few weeks and people kept trying to buy it from me. Even the old owner saw it now and was grumbling about wanting to buy it back, no way lol. Just found out im getting good money on my taxes so im going to paint it gm red jewel. I already scored a set of sport mirrors for it. Im head painter in the bodyshop so this will be a sweet paint job for sure. bumpers on this car are shitty so i was thinking fiberglass tuck bumpers?? what do you guys think of tuck bumpers?

Re: my free 78 malibu

Personally, I think that the old school chrome bumpers are part of the appeal of these cars.

Re: my free 78 malibu

maybe paint the bumpers silver?

Re: my free 78 malibu

The bumpers look fine. I'd try to score some nice buckets instead.
