That looks great for the bar top. You going to leave it natural?
I'm not sure if I'm going to just poly it or stain then poly. The top does look nice natural.

Either way, it'll look beautiful. Normally I'm not a fan of mixing woods but I think those two might work together. Go for max contrast. Maybe a red oak finish below and a clear finish for the top?

I don't suppose your uncle and cousin are interested in a quick 6000 mile road trip? I'd like to process one of the Doug Firs that held up my childhood tree house and use it for the bed floor in my pickup. I've been asking around to see if anyone knows of someone with a portable sawmill. So far, no luck. Ironically, when I was a kid, our next door neighbor had a mill and stored it less 50' from my tree house. Go figure.

I didnt want to mix woods. But he didnt have any oak and he said this would be a close match. After the hurricane that hit last year they got a whole bunch of wood. My top is a tree that fell and hit a friend of the families deck he just built. So he was kind of glad to do cut it up and make actual use from it after destroying a deck....I hope it doesnt bring back luck.

They also were able to get a couple cedar trees. They will be making a chest and lining a closet in with it.

I'm not sure they are up to drive that. But that would be cool to have that tree turned into a bed. It would still have sentimental meaning too it, and a good conversation piece.

I use this clear/natural oil on my picnic Table I built. http://www.menards.com/main/paint/inter ... c-7972.htm ... Sense it's obviously outside, I do it 3-4 times a year to keep it protected.

I have some dark stain I add to it (10 parts -To- 1 Part) Adding a splash of the dark really helps pick up the characteristics of the wood grain....

I know Poly adds alot of protection but I personally think it's far to glossy and In some way takes away from the natural look... I didn't use any on my picnic table....

If it wasn't poring down rain right now I'd post a pic for ya....

Honestly, the wife hates it when I call it a Man Cave (i still do anyways) but we typically call it the game room. I asked her for her input. She suggested in the hallway to the laundry to hang some movie posters of our favorite movies. We will hang those in the coming months.

Then the bathroom down stairs was a dated 1970s with yellow vanity and yellow shower stall. I didn't want to spend crazy money on a bathroom we hardly use which was still in good shape....SO this is what she came up with.

I will look into this more. Like you said it will help bring out the graining. I think I might do at least 1 coat of poly just for protection and then go from their if I want more.

That bathroom looks great. You and your wife have awesome skills and ideas...
Thanks. The house is definitely a reflection of who we are.

This is the tap tower I will be installing. I will eventually convert to a dual tap. But this is fine for now.

I was having trouble getting the cool air to the tower. It was at 46 degrees. that would be a foamy beer there. So I installed a little blower motor in the freezer and connected to copper pipe to blow cool air 4' down the pvc to the tower. I also and installing the beer line in a 3/4 copper pipe to help with the cool transfer....Now I got 36 degrees at the tower. and its ready for beer to be flowing through. 8)
