so i'm looking at camshafts and i think i may go above what i was first looking for. here are some candidates...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-113521/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-60102/

duration and lift is a bit more than i originally wanted but i'm ok with it. i can still run about 9:1 CR for any of them and still be fine.

im really digging the Z cam and the voodoo cam.

page for the voodoo cam: http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=1983&gid=287

i'm really liking that one alot and i might choose that one.

i've decided to reuse the rods IF whatever machine shop i go to says they are reusable. i think i'll get an aftermarket crank though, going up to 350-400 HP for a cast OE iron crank is pushing it.

i'm looking for 350-400 HP now, still not a hard goal to achieve on a budget.

cuz i'm a cheap *ss i'm scaling back to a pure budget build up so whatever i need i'll be buying the cheapest possible (without sacrificing quality so that doesnt always mean the lowest price)

in the mean time i'm grinding the casting flash off the entire block on the outside. i've started with the front of the block and it looks good so far. here's a pic...

since all i have is a dremel at the moment using a little stone to remove all the flash is gonna be a slow process.

i do have a question about a cam kit i found... http://www.competitionproducts.com/Elgi ... nfo/E922K/

has anyone used an elgin cam? the price seems really good and has specs similar to the summit cam (.442 intake and .465 exhaust, 214-224 duration @ .050 lift) i've seen some talk about on here. i figure if i get used heads i can use the parts from the elgin kit to help rebuild the heads and they'll match the cam so that's a win win IMO.

well i finally got to take some measurements with a caliper i bought last night and it is a standard bore block! so i can get 2 rebuilds out of it so long as the block is useable and i believe it is. i plan on getting a dial bore gauge set but the caliper will do for now since i was just checking to see what the bore size was. i havent measured the crank yet and i'll probably do that today but i may just go with an aftermarket crank with cross drilled mains. i found a scat crank in cast steel for under 200 bucks.

in the mean time i'm still removing casting flash and smoothing the outside of the block. after doing this to my new thermostat housing for my 3.8 (cast iron) and painting it, it looks way better than it did before. so i'm hoping the block will look really nice and smooth when i get done with it. the front is done though i havent done the surface behind the timing chain cover, i want to finish the outside first.

i also have a question, can i do the same thing with the inside of the lifter gallery? i thought instead of painting it i would just smooth it out real fine. or is this a bad idea?
