My "new" very rusty 2+2

Looks very restorable, save it, don't part it. Replace the frame, brakes and driveline components, add a few patch panels, repaint it and you should have a nice driver.
Not many of these were made...

Its not even close to restorable. Needs a frame, doors, quarters, complete floor, etc. The hood is even rotten. Would cost a fortune to save. The pictures actually make it look better than it is. When every brake line and the gas line is rusted off of it, you know it is pretty rusty. 🙂

It's a shame that it was left out in the elements for so many years. What are people thinking when they let a car lay like that...
oh well  ..or they're not thinking, is more like it.
It does look like it would be a major undertaking to restore...like you said, probably not worth it. 🙁
I always liked those cars, too.

If you can believe it it was his deceased fathers car originally. He wanted to restore it in memory of him. Instead he parks it on the lawn since 2003. His mother was threatening to call the wreckers to come get the car if he did not sell it. He told me if I ever fixed it up to come by and show it to him.

Use the frame floors hood & misc from another GP. You want to keep the vin/dash and rear window body & trunk. As for the big Cadillac motor in a G check out my pics. I built and installed two. Picture this in it. http://www.cadillacperformanceparts.com ... &Itemid=62 Click the motor pic to see it up close.

You can build it to that power for about four grand with the right parts selection. Assuming you can do all the disassembly, parts ordering, tell the machine shop what you want done, assembly, measurements, reassembly. Naturally that does not include their warranty, dynoing, tuneing, the custom valvecovers, pan, distributor or a brand new carb. But rather inexpensive chrome valve covers, rebuilt distributor, rebuilt carberator, an Eldorado oil pan etc. The power band is from 2 to 5 thousand instead of 4 to 7 thousand like a 350 that made similar HP and with a bunch more tire roasting torque.

I am not going to fix this body. I want to fix up my first car. If I restored this car, it would take a pantload of work, and for what? I will have a nice car and my fist car would be sitting in the barn all lonely. I am not going to fix two cars up...

The white 2+2 is completely rotten. I can put a screwdriver through the floor in most places.

I understand sentimental attachment. The for what part though would be for a real 2+2 that has some value desirability collect ability over a garden variety GP. Not saying you should part your first car. FWIW floors are not a deal breaker but other places can be. Regardless have fun. Plans for the big Cad?

What are you going to do with it?????

JBreu - I listed in my first post on what I am going to do with it.

I understand what you are saying Dog, but these cars are not that collectible. This one was advertised for a month with no takers. There was a few guys to have interest, and one even came to look at it. If it was a superbird it would have been gone in hours. To fix up a car in hopes to have its value increase is not my cup of tea. I have too many cars as it is, I don't need to add to the fleet. What realistically is the car worth right now as it sits? If I wanted to buy the 2+2 stuff from Lauren, it would cost me over 3 grand. Is this car worth more than that? I don't need to do a favour for someone else so they can have some value. I am the owner right now and if it makes financial sense to strip the parts I need I want to be thinking of my pocketbook, not someone elses.

Don't miss read me i'm not arguing with you just throwing some things out there for ya. None of us thinks of all angles on all things immediately its just to give more options or other ideas. No its not a superbird. Yea I would much rather see some rare parts saved & or reused on your other car. Some of the Lauren stuff is different for practicality of a conversion than the original. I know the frame & floor etc are shot. fwiw there is a guy on here who has several 2+2s always looking for more he may want some parts that you are not going to use that to anyone else may have no value. If I think of it I will try to post it for you as maybe you can sell him some of the otherwise junk parts. If not its all good and I look forward to seeing what you do with the makeover of your other car. 8)
