I took my car to work yesterday which is 50 miles one way. So I get to work and my valve train sounds like a sewing machine. I didnt have time to check it out untill after work. But by then it was cold and did not notice the ticking. Once I got home it seemed to louder. I suspect the valves are out of adjust so I did some research and find different opinions on the valve lash spec. I think 1 half turn at zero lash should do it. Whats your guys opinions?

hydraulic right? if so, then that sounds about right to me, 1/2 turn at zero. You could also try doing it with the motor running. Might get a little messy though

with hydraulic lifters, it's easy enough without motor running... Bring them to zero lash, then an extra 1/2 turn. Some people say 1/4 turn, some say 3/4 turn. So the middle range at 1/2 turn is good.

I like to lash when the engine is completely cooled. For me, I'm slow, it's tough to do it when the engine is warm... because by the time I get around to the last set, all the cylinders have been cooling and the lash is no longer consistent. Doing a cold lash insures that all cylinders are done equally. And since you have hydraulics, you don't have to worry about lash spacing, you just need to be consistent. The only way to do it consistently is at one temperature, either cold, or hot... but hot can be messy because you do it with motor running.

loose valve lash with flat tappets is noisy but won't damage anything but with roller lifters you can damage the roller of the lifter if the adjustment is out

use a .015 feeler gauge and set the valve till the feeler gauge can be slid inbetween the valve stem and rocker without much pressure . Then turn the nut another 3/4 turn and it's set..you have self aligning rockers so you'll have to trim down the width of the feeler gauge to get it in place

Well I just got done adjusting the valves and wow what a difference! I checked each one before I adjusted them and they were close to 3/4 turn already. So I set them at one turn and all the noise went away. My idle went up and gained more vacuum. And the hesitation went away also.

NICE!

Here is a pic of the gauges
