i totally missed the part of the post about getting a beetle. do you mean a brand new one? if not, STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are the biggest pieces of sh*t VW ever built. and believe me VW has built some crap! the beetle is so bad, that even the TDi variants had issues! (btw, i'm on my 5th VW, 3rd diesel, 2nd TDi)
if it's the new one, you might be good, or not... but i would highly recommend getting the TDi!
