I had a gauge cluster and an oil sending unit and a temp sending unit given to me.

The oil idiot light unit has 3 wire plug and the oil pressure unit has only one brown wire.
I hooked up the cluster before hooking up the sending units and the oil gauge pegged hard over to the right.
I have tried the brown wire in all three plugs and the gauge will not come off zero.

Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

Wow. someone else with a lemans wagon named Lindsay. Even spelled the same! I replaced my idiot lights with a gauge cluster and it was totally plug an play. Unplug the old unit and plug in the new one. Did you get the proper sending units for the water temp and oil pressure? They are different than idiot light sending units.

The stock oil pressure switch is integrated with the choke heater. It grounds at 4psi. Just replace with a gauges type sending unit and it should work fine. The wire on the engine bay side that leads to the dash should be tan.

i figured it was the tan one. Maybe my sending unit is not working.

The Pontiac book shows the tan and light blue wires joined at the oil switch connector. Did you seperate them? Because the light blue wire goes to the choke heater and ground, which would peg the gauge.

I was just plugging in to the 3 prong plug with the single brown on the new sending unit. I'll cut the brown one off the plug and try it by itself.

It is a 2 prong plug on the idiot sensor and one wire on the oil pressure sensor but the harness plug has a green blue and tan wire.. I am thinking I need to cut the tan wire and attach it directly.

Yes, cut that tan wire and put a spade connector on it and it should be fine.
