I just ordered my drop spindles for the front 2" figured that should get me low enough (probably going to be running 17 or 18s) i would like to lower the back 1 or 2 inches, but ive read that i cant cut the springs? So how would i go about lowering it, The drop springs they make hardly lower it 1 inch, and theyre outrageously priced. Dont wanna spend $200 on something if its still not gonna get me low enough. any ideas on how to drop my car 2" or so would be greatly appreciated

I have moog 5661 springs for the rear and I use the F body spring isolator which has a channel in the molded rubber for the open spring to sit in. You can cut the spring to your preference. You can get the isolator here for $15.24 each. Look up the number 10290379 if the page doesn't show that part..

im not quite sure what the isolater does? Are you saying i would be able to cut my stock springs if i had that? how exactly does that work?

the isolator isolates the metal spring from the metal body. I guess you could cut the existing spring but that spring is probably as old as the car so it's probably kind of tired.

yes but with the isolator pictured above i will be able to cut the stock style springs? with the ends being smaller than the rest of the spring?

what you have now is a pig tail at the end of your spring...the F body isolators allow you to use an open end spring..or as jrm81bu suggested you can modify your existing one

Ohhh, okay i understand now! sorry a little new to this. Would it be easier to modify mine or just buy new ones? probably wouldnt hurt to put new ones on it anyway, But just curious how would i modify my own?. Im not trying to be lazy or cheap on this, Just lowering the car temporarily till i get some $$ saved up to do some good suspension mods.

I don't know how jrm81bu modified his...but I'm sure he'll explain it to you. It's not a problem if it takes you a bit to catch on and we've all been there doing what you can till you have the money to do what you want..

Yeah, heres where im at now, I bought the car from a guy who had a title loan on his girlfriends car and needed $1,400 to get it payed off. found it on craigslist one thursday night for $2500, He said if you come tonight i may take 2, he made the mistake of telling me what he needed, so he took $1,400.. Its a black cherry 85 ss, Maroon interior, Built 355 (VERY strong) with a 350 turbo with a 3500 stall. The interior was a little rough, speedo doesnt work, dash is cracked, and drivers side seat has a hole in it, Left front fender has a dent but the rest of the body is GREAT! paint is good, Not a spec of rust. I had some 15" billet specialty wheels i threw on it for the time being, Going to lower it, Found some sparco look a like seats (black) and im going to start dying the interior black, Get a new dash cap, new black carpet and headliner. after i get interior done it will be onto cleaning up engine bay, Then work on suspension
