Okay 1st problem...my sub-woofers have an impedance of dual 4ohm and have dual voice coils. Manufacturer shows they can do 2ohm or 4ohm...but when you read the directions they show them only being able to be wired as 2ohm or 8ohm. The 8ohm is a bridged parallel setup, then they show a bridged mono or a regular stereo setup as 2ohm. can someone help me?

2nd problem is a have an 400w max 3channel amp. It states: output power - 4ohm 50wx2 + 100wx1 and output power @14.4 VDC: 4ohm 150wx1 + 150wx1. I believe if I'm interpreting info correctly the amp will put out 150w to each sub in a 40hm setup. what will it put out @2ohm or 8ohm and how can I wire it in one of those setups?

Also what gauge power and ground would you recommend for the given setup

If you need any more info please don't hesitate to ask...

if you have 2 subs that are 4 ohm, wire them like this for a 4 ohm load.

what amp is it also?
does it have a mono subwoofer channel?

i recommend 4 gauge power and ground wire for your setup

This is wiring diagram that came with sub-woofers, mine are the D4 version

This is the side of the box from amp, it is a 400w max 3-channel amp, so I am led to believe it is not mono

This is pic of how the sub-woofer was wired

Lastly this is pic of how amp was wired...I am also led to believe this was wired improperly

How the hell do you wire an 8ohm load and what would it do to the power output?

i would recommend wiring to a 4 ohm load.
wiring to an 8 ohm load would decrease power output drastically.

use this diagram:

you should only have two wires going to the amp, and put them on the 3rd channel
not sure if your amp is bridgeable? link to amp?

Okay, they are definitely wired to a 4ohm load I believe. Goes from positive on CH1 on amp to first sub and then goes from neg on CH2 on amp to second sub. Just to clarify this would be a 4ohm load wired in series?

But if you look at the installation manual for subs they show only 3 ways to wire these subs(D4) properly. bridged mono parallel 8 ohm load. stereo series 2ohm or a bridged mono 2ohm load...that's what is really confusing me.

the subs can be either wired to a 1 ohm load or a 4 ohm load.
your amp isnt 1 ohm stable so the next best, (and only) option is 4 ohm

also to wire the subs correctly you need to have both positive terminals from both of the subs together going to the amp,
same with the negative side
the way you described it, it sounds like you have only one voice coil hooked up?

I think you may be right about the one voice coil...I didn't hook it up. I am almost certain though it was wired wrong. Were you able to tell which channels on the amp I should use? Bridging?

I recommend a capacitor also, it makes a big difference in power output and it will save your alternator/battery.

use ch. 3, it has the most power going to it that i could see from the specs
i didnt see anything that your amp is bridgeable, probly because its a 3 ch, which is kinda uncommon.

@ 84GP455 no need for a capacitor with that much power IMO

I've been researching since I got home...My amp is not bridgeable. The most powerful channel is ch3 which @ 4ohm should put out 150W total lol. I will be replacing amp soon but want to wire this one correctly 1st, would you recommend a mono or 2-channel amp to power these 2 dual voice coil 4ohm subs?

I know now that my subs are 4-ohm Dual Voice Coil (not that you didn't know but I am trying to wrap my head around all of this)
What I don't understand now is...Even though my subs are 4-ohm I could wire them @2-ohms or 4-ohms correct? What would be the difference in how they are wired?

I saw another wiring diagram which is identical to your diagram but a little more illustration which helped me to understand that much. http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutch...nter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg

Maybe a better question would be thinking of my amp's 3rd channel as a mono amp...If I wired my subs like this diagram I would be @ 4ohm? If I wired them @2ohm what would be different?
