Bought this engine two years ago. Chevy 305 bored .030" over and i put a used scat stroker crank in it. It has a holley 3310 750cfm vacuum secondaries. Heads are ported. The cam is slightly big. Doesnt have any balls till about 2,000rpm. Which was great with my rebuilt th350 but now i have a 700r4 with 3.42 gears and need more low end torque. Also has a weiand street warrior dual plane intake. Any ideas on how to get more tourqe? Cam recommendations? It has the stock stall converter too. Should i change intakes?? Want to sell the motor for a 350 but im having trouble getting rid of it.

The best thing for no torque is of course more cubes....

Without knowing exactly what you have it's kinda hard to give advice on what you should do. Your cam is probably too big, it may be installed retarded, you may not have good CR, the heads could have been hogged out too much, the carb may be a bit big or not tuned properly, your timing could be off. Lots of things it could be, but we don't really know. With that said, it sounds like a higher stall converter is needed.

This the same engine you said someone else built that had the bad guides in one head?

Someone else built it yes. But i put the bottom end together. And we tried a different heat range plug and havent had a problem with the detonation on the one side anymore.

that's the problem building up a 305, it's one of those things to do cause you wanted to but not many others want to spend money for one

I've realised that. Bought the motor for $500. Spun a rod bearing and destroyed the crank. Put it all back together and runs good. Nobody even wants it for $500

So all you changed was the transmission? If anything, it should have more grunt now. The 700R4 has a considerably deeper 1st gear than the TH350. It's either a lame stock converter or you messed with the tune somehow and it went the wrong direction.

A higher stall converter will get you into your power band quicker, making for better launches. If you start to feel the motor pulling strong at 2000 rpm, then a TC with a stall of 2000-2200 would be a good change.

The trans and converter came out of a stock 90's truck. So im not sure what it is but im thinking a new torque converter is what i need.
