i want my SS done for spring.. i have a limited budget or around 2500$..

the cars a shell.. it is in primer now..

im looking for pics of primer SS's.. or FLAT BLACK SS's..

also whats your opinions on running primer or FB for a year or 2?.. i mean the cars stripped.. it could get painted... white or black again..but it would be a $800 paint job.. and that also eats into my small black money to get it back running again..

all im looking for motor wise is a a SBC with a cam and bolt on's... maybe a bore...

i dont know if this made sense..

i need pics to see what it would look like..

also in that budget would be wheels...

Where are you at? You can always find a good running small block up here for cheap. Right now I think I might know where to get a 400 with a recent rebuild, mild cam, weiand intake, holley carb, and headers for like $400. Or a 74 Chevy 2wd truck with a good running 454 and a good turbo 400 transmission for like 5 or 6 hundred. It's rusty but it'll drive where ever you need to go. As far as paint I'm really into the satin paint jobs that have come about recently. I'll look around for some pic's a little later for ya. I'll also keep my eyes open for whatever.

im in ontario.. the engine isnt my issue.. its the rest of the car...

i was thinking.. 1k on driveline.. and 1500 on the rest... of course im doing the work myself so thats saves a TON..

Only problem is primer absorbs water, therefore running primer is worst than if the old paint was still on it.Don't do it your car will rust fast i tried that on my SS and rusted out quick.

can't you shoot clear on top of it to prevent rust?

yea.. the car wont be sitting out in the rain or anything... but im sure it will get wet eventually...

so.. maybe get it painted single stage black for the time being..

problem is i KNOW i wont be happy with it...but w/e.. i guess at least it will be out there.

How do they do them satin paint jobs????

idk but i do know there are satin clear coats, from what my short research has found, the best ones are a basecoat/clearcoat paintjobs, the problem with rattle can and other really cheap clear coats are that the oils from your handss leave streaks. however, thats no problem if you wash it with degreaser everyonce in a while, there is a john deere color that is supposedly cheap and good quality.

Well, it depends on which satin finished car you look at. The cheap way is with Krylon flat black spray paint, but that isn't the best way either. Some people use the base coat from a base-clear system (like PPG Deltron DBU), and some use black epoxy primer, which is great at inhibiting rust. Unfortunately, it is not good when exposed to UV light, and fades fast. The best way is to buy a specific satin finish paint from a company like House of Color. Also, not all primer sucks in water, only lacquer primer does. Urethane and Epoxy primers do not, but they are rather pricey. I spent over $100 for a gallon of Nason Select Prime to do my Cutlass, but it was worth it because it sits outside and does not rust. I think I needed 1.5 gallons to do the whole car, but that is with multiple blockings too.
