Need to look for a 30 spline axle set

Do us a favor and take a picture of your rear end. Someone may have put in an 8.5" before you so that's where the confusion may be coming from. The 7.5"s never had 28 spline axles. If it's a 7.5 that means somebody upgraded to a 28 spline carrier and axles already

some of the 7 5/8 carriers which fit in the 7.5 housing has 28 spline side gears..it could be the 7.5 and has been upgraded by someone

That's possible but the op said it's stock. He would also have never been able to buy the 30 spline posi for a 7.5 or 7 5/8, so i'm guessing he bought one for an 8.5.

don't see how it can be stock since the Monte never came with 28 spline axles...I think I'm confused

Lol, no were pretty much saying the same thing. If it really has 28 splines it's not stock. It either, like you said, been upgraded with a different carrier, or has been swapped out with an 8.5. My main point is since the Monte came stock with a 7.5 or 7 5/8(doesn't really make a difference) the 30 spline carrier the op bought is wrong. There is no 30 spline carriers available for a 7.5. But if it had been swapped to an 8.5 at some point then it could still work.
