Nobody is going to tell him that those are floater rear ends & he would need another $500 in hubs?

Not to mention they would come with 5x8ths studs and he would still need axles after buying a 3rd member

An 8.5 from a G-body is by far the easiest way out - hands down. Not tough enough? I call BS - we've been putting 800whp to ours for 2 seasons with a set of Moser 30 spline axles. Cheaper than a 9"? Absolutely. All of the stock and aftermarket control arms, sway bars, brakes, etc fit.

I have 2000 in my qp 9 inch rear. Every 8.5 I find is between 1000-1200 to start. Now to rebuild it, get gear set desire, upgrade to 31 spline, I came up close to 3000 - 3500. I like my 9 inch rear.

$700 to upgrade an 8.5 to 30 spline axles, posi , gears and bearing kit from QP. 1000 core.

OP is making 500hp, he can use the 8.5 stock posi, axles and gears. A set of clutches, bearings and new gears can be had for $250.

Ivagree that of money is no concern then buying an assembled aftermarket housing designed for a g body is easier. Lilbowtie’s plan of a Strange setup is what I’d go with having a Dana 60 diff if I were in that situation.

To each his own - use what you like. There nothing wrong with Quick’s Performance’s 9”. There are cheaper options for 500hp.

Sounds like you have more money and work in that 8.5 than my QP-9 cost delivered to my door.

$1700 is more than in a bolt in 9"?

My son paid $700 (including freight) for his, $700 from quicks and $350 for a disc brake conversion.

We can build you a kit to install a Chevette rear or a Cummins dually rear and just about everything in between. Our Explorer 8.8 swap kit would do the trick with that 05 and up Mustang 8.8. Most ready to go after market 9" with minimal options will start about $2000. You will still need a good set of rear arms. Best bang for the buck for the parts you already have would be the Explorer 8.8 swap kit.

I will never buy anything from SSM again...promises made that were not kept.
I didn’t have that experience with them. Mac answered all of my questions on both the forum and on the phone.
