Hello, my name is Phil and I'm new to this site. I wanted to show off one of the cars I'm working on right now. It's a 1978 Cutlass Calais that has a rare factory 4-speed in it. The car still has its original Chevy 305 V8 2bbl motor, Saginaw 4-speed, and a 2.73 rear end. I've owned it for over a year now and have done some mechanical and minor cosmetic work to it. It runs good but will get an engine rebuild sometime in the near future. It has 141,000+ miles and burns some oil. I only see a big puff of blue smoke on start-up so I think it's the valve seals that are no good. Otherwise, it's a great car. Three different manuals were available in 1978: a Saginaw 3-speed was the base transmission behind the 231 V6 2bbl, the Saginaw 4-speed was only available behind the Chevy 305 V8 2bbl, and a Borg Warner T50 5-speed was available with the Olds 260 2bbl . It's a fun car. There's nothing like rowing through the gears of a manual transmission Cutlass! I will try to upload some pictures soon.

Welcome to the site. What part of Ma? I'm in western Ma myself. Nice looking interior, waiting for the outside pictures.

Welcome! Nothing like a stick in a g body. Family's owned chevys for years and all the small blocks blew a puff on startup, most did for over 300k before the body rotted around them. Never had luck with replacing the seals on the really high mileage ones, something about the valves themselves not sealing up.
