Hello everyone, my names, Chaney (yes first name heh), and I'm new here. I recently acquired (today actually haha) a 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix and was searching the internet for a good G-body forum and stumbled upon this site. You all seem like a nice, friendly, and knowledgeable group of people and thought this would be a great site to be apart of! 😀
I have been a big fan of late 70's to late 80's A/G-bodies since I was a kid. A few of my relatives had 80's G-bodies from pictures I have seen and, going through photo albums as a kid, I became interested in them. It wasn't until I grew older, and waited for my license, that my interest in them would spark again. I decided I wanted to have an 80's G-body of my own. Hearing my dad's stories of growing up in the 70's and 80's and the cars they used to own, I decided I wanted a RWD car with class and style. 8) I found a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham which really kicked off my interest in these cars even more. I miss that car, should have never sold it.. Fast forward 3 or 4 years now and I am at the age of 21 with an 80's G-body again! 😀 This time I'm not letting this one go.
The car starts every time like a charm thus far and moves down the road nicely. 8) The guy I bought my GP from had full documentation of the work that happened to this car, and even included a rebuild of the 305ci engine and 200-4R (I'm fairly certain that is the correct transmission..off the top of my head knowledge going here) transmission at 56,000 some miles. On the body there are now 130,000 some miles on her which equates to roughly to 74,000 miles on the engine and transmission now. Just some rough guesstimates but are fairly close for comparison and she runs very smoothly. She is a Canadian car from what I could piece together with the VIN number, which is interesting to me. The only real "major" work I have to do (if it can be called that haha) is locate a new trunk (the one on it currently is dented..might be able to hammer it out a bit..) and a paint job. Otherwise, for a daily driver, she's in very nice condition, and I am extremely happy to have a G-body back once again! Driving her home was nothing but smiles! Look forward to chatting and meeting you all! Pictures to come soon, I promise.
*EDIT*
Here are the pic's! 8) The exterior is a bit dirty from driving it through the gravel paved storage units, but she'll be cleaned up soon enough. I do have the other Pontiac Rally II wheel (I believe they were called Rally II's) in the trunk along with all the other trim pieces. At the moment she is actually pretty ready to be prepped and painted soon if I so desired. Funds are the problem right now, but once I do get the money, she'll get a nice black paint job again. 8)
Here is the trunk with damage near the keyhole. Still functions nicely, just a bit wavy not bad, but i still plan on replacing it or possibly smoothing it out again if i can..
These last two pictures are the interior pictures that need work. Its mostly just wear and tear type of things, and I do need to shampoo the interior nicely. I just quickly vacuumed her out before the pics. Overall though, I think I got a really nice car for the money. 😀
The car you see infront of my car is my brother's '69 Corvair Monza 140 with the 4 speed. Only around 6,000 of these cars were made in '69. Fun little car I have to say.. 😛
