new guy with 81 monte

hi every one just joined the site. Hopein to find some good advise on my build i have a 81 monte with a 350 has 186 heads and a turbo 350....planning a 383 build and just bought a 700r4 that needs rebuilt out of a 94 chevy truck, along with puttin a posi unit in it and 4:11 gears, anyone know the best kit to buy for the transmission and what 10 bolt rear ends will inter change thanks for the info
 
Hey welcome. As far as the trans kit i dont know which kit is better than the other. The montie ss came with 3.73 posi rears. Im not sure what years someone else will have a better anwser that knows more about the years and what interchanges.
 
hey man thanks, i picked the transmission up today for 30 bucks and i figured it would be worth the rebuild to run low gears, my dad has a 68 chevelle with 4:11 gears it has a saginaw 4 speed its wound up at 55 mph and when we had a th350 in it it was the same so i figured i better jump on this overdrive transmission. as far as the rear-ends i work at a recycling center (metal yard) and i have all kinds of stuff come threw ive got a 10 bolt that has a limited slip tag on it and i think it had 11370 stamped on it but i have no idea what it came out of, right now my car has a cast iron intake and quadrajet on it, it kinda sluggish off idle but if i stall it a bit it will smoke that one tire threw second, i have a 670 street advenger and a vic jr. intake but i think the intake may be overkill
 
Yeah the vic jr would deffently be over kill and the 670 is to but it depends on the rest of your engine combo aslo. I tryed to run those numbers but could not come up with anything. Do you have any pics of the rear end. Im using a 700r4 with 3.73 gears and it works great. Im going to hook up the 4th gear lock up for a even better highway rideride. There are a few "how too's" on wiring the lock up feature.
 
no pics of the rear end at this moment i seen some in the tech topics it looks like the 7.5 pic, my current engine i havent been into yet i done some trading and got the car from my cousin he got it from a chic whos brother built it and kept gettin in trouble for racing so they sold it. It has a gear drive and the cam is bigger than stock it has a rough almost choppey idle and it pulls threw the brakes, has a hei with accel coil and wires, im thinkin they prolly pulled there intake and carb combo before they sold it to my cousin and put the stock stuff back on, ive got a stock alum. intake off of a iroc that i thought about porting and try it on it
 
The alum intake would deffently be lighter and might flow better than the current steel manifold. Its worth a try but you would be better with a aftermarket one. I personally dont like q-jets but some swear buy them. If it has a cam you could probally use that 670 but it might take rejetting. Its hard to say not knowing exact specs. Have you checked the timing
