New To the forum from peoria illinois! in the process of building my 85 monte LS quick rundown, 71 010 high nickel 4 bolt main 350 block dome pistons stock bottom end summit heads 2.02 valves 72cc chambers comp 1.52 roller tips howards hydraulic flat tappet cam, cam matched lifters and springs from howards performer rpm intake holley 750 cfm carb turbo 350 with kit ss 7.5 rear end 3.73's flowtech headers. BUT recently finished and installed the motor used kendall high zinc oil for break primed the pump etc. it fired on the first hit no delays at all ran for 15 mins in got hot shut it off for a few started again ran 10 more minutes and called it good the next day came out to make sure everything seemed fine noticed a tick on the right side, pulled the cover number 8 intake was EXTREMELY loose we figured the worst so called howards and the tech from there said RUN IT. so we reset all the valves and us being leery of firing it again obviously this isnt our first motor. but we figured what the hell the guy said run it so we did so we set the valves again the tick went away so we figured we were golden maybe the lifter just wasn't pumping up? well we drove it up the street to the gas station and back and the tick was back we put a meter on the rocker and sure enough we were only getting half the lift on the number 8 intake so motor came back out we tore it apart and the lifter and the lobe were destroyed the motor was full of shavings so its at the shop being cleaned and summit and howards sent us a new cam and lifters. so in a few weeks it should be back together were gonna run stock z28 springs instead of the heavy cam matched ones and run joe gibbs break in oil this time. So hopefully all goes well! this seems like a great site hope too have pics up and hear about some of your guys builds and projects!
