Hello out there, pretty new to this forum stuff. I have a 1983 Buick Regal Limited with a 355 city motor, 200r4 transmission and 411 posi rear. Saw post about cosmichrome, how would someone get in touch with guy that does it? Also looking for ideas on bucket seats and console for my car. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Boyd was my dad's name. We love seeing pics of member's cars. Post a few for us.
I'm not familiar with the post about cosmichrome. Maybe somebody else here knows.
There's a lot of knowledge on the site and a lot of people to help you out.

Welcome to the site from Houston. What is a "city motor"?

I'm guessing that was an auto correct of ci. I could be wrong about that though.
Yea, stupid smart phones. I created an album "Boyd's 83 Regal" has a few pictures. Still have some work to do like headlight bezels, seats and different console. I didn't know how hard it would be to find parts for this car.

Finding parts for G Bodies is a little harder than it used to be. There is finally some decent aftermarket support though. A lot of parts can be bought through Original Parts Group Inc. but they're kind of expensive. Car-part.com can be helpful as well. It's a network of salvage yards that have their parts inventory online. Don't forget that a lot of parts interchange from different vehicles too. I have access to Hollander interchange so I might be able to help you out with that.

Thanks, I heard about Car-part.com will check it out.

Welcome aboard!

Is your car the black one pictured in your avatar picture?

If so, I'll throw you out a couple starting points parts wise. As far as headlight bezels go, if your car is that black car it has a 1984-1987 regal header panel on it. That's a popular swap and very easy to do. It also frees up tons of options partswise.

Nothing 1981-1983 is reproduced. Almost everything 1984-1987 is. So on the later style, you can buy new reproduction headlight bezels easily, oem style filler panels, etc.

Cosmichrome is basically paint. It does chip and wear the way a soft spray paint would from bugs, road debris, etc. People who use it do have that issue when it is applied to bumpers or front end parts, it lasts better on interiors and side/rear of cars. It may stand up better if the car is garaged and seldom driven, but will still wear in that manner so be aware.

Seat-wise, question is if your car has a full bench or split bench in it now. If you have a full bench you will need to source the pair of inner mounts fo each side to add to the floor pans. Split bench has the right mounts already there for buckets.

Console wise, if you want something that fits and meshes with the factory dash as if it belongs there either 1978-87 regal/ttype/grand national or 1978-1988 rwd cutlass works, just remove the ash tray.

Seat-wise you need g-body bucket seat tracks, then pick something you like the style and feel of. If the rest of your interior is nice, and you aren't changing colors, you can pick seats out of another gm of the same or similar color and have it match. So for 1983, if you had the red interior, think a similar year early 80s regal, cutlass, firebird, the colors will match up except possible fading differences.

Also for what it's worth, i went back to find your photo album.

When looking for parts in case anything ever happens this may be helpful info.

On exterior: your header panel is 1984-1987, front bumper fillers 1984-1987, grille 1984-1986, headlight bezels 1984-1987, tailights 1984-1987. Has been repainted, looks to be a nice job, emblems put back in the wrong spot but correct for year.

On the interior, your gauges and bezel are 1983. However, your interior is 1985-1986 grey limited door panels, and the dashboard has at least been dyed (1983 in a grey car was dark charcoal near black from the factory) but more likely changed. The dash plaque over the glove box is incorrect, that was the dash plaque for a base (non limited) regal in a 1984-1985 style. Probably dash had cracks and was swapped. The seats not really sure what they're from, center console looks grand prix. Shifter knob looks like whats in my 78 z28. Original grey color in that year was what they call sandstone grey, it's much lighter in shade.

So just be aware when asking/buying/ordering parts you need the newer 1985-87 shade, but for plastics that are woodgrain you cannot buy 1987 - it had brushed aluminum for the doors and grey/black on the dash trim... something that other than the 1982 GN was never made for the 1981-1983 style gauges.

Lots of little changes, but, looks nice!
